It had all the potential for Fight of the Year, or even KO of the Year. Unfortunately it didn't last long enough to be FOTY or have a vicious enough KO. Saturday night might have been the last time we see Wanderlei Silva in a professional MMA battle. Unfortunately, I kinda want him to retire before he damages his brain with even more concussive KOs just like Chuck Liddell did. Chris Leben pounced on Wanderlei in the clinch and put him to sleep in just 27 seconds.
Mike Goldberg, the voice of the UFC and probably the 2nd most synonymous voice in MMA (behind Joe Rogan), this is your moment to deliver an iconic call, but instead this is what you came up with.......
"LEBEN LOOKING TO FINISH! AND IT IS ALL OVER! WANDERLEI SILVA BEATS.....WANDERLEI SILVA BEATEN BY CHRIS LEBEN!"
That's right. In the middle of the only type of fight-ending call he ever makes, he declared Wanderlei SIlva the victor before catching himself mid-sentence. If only it were true. Let's add this quote into the Hall of Goldberg. I know everyone makes mistakes, but it's every event with Goldie and he's called fights for over a decade.
This is right up there with "Pro Baxing", "Michael Jordan-esque in his jiu-jitsu, is Travis Lutter", "Tito trying to take a book out of Chuck's chapter!", and my personal favorite "If his name was Keith Johnson then the 'Dean of Mean' makes no sense".
Ever-bewildering are the comments of Mike Goldberg, Joe.
