T.J. Waldburger Faces Daniel Roberts at UFC Fight Night 25: Battle on the Bayou
Two welterweight submission artists have agreed to face off in New Orleans, as the UFC is reporting via Twitter that verbal agreements are in place for a bout between T.J. Waldburger and Daniel Roberts at UFN 25: Battle on the Bayou in September:
A battle between submission specialists has been agreed to as TJ Waldburger will take on @ninjaroberts at UFC Fight Night September 17
This could prove to be an entertaining ground battle, as Waldburger made his UFC debut with a splash, setting a new UFC record for the most combined submission attempts in a fight in his decision win over David Mitchell (13 over three rounds: 7 for Waldburger, 6 for Mitchell). The Texan didn't find the same success in his next fight, suffering a quick TKO loss to Johny Hendricks in March.
"Ninja" Roberts, meanwhile, finds himself in desperate need of a win after losing two consecutive decisions against Claude Patrick and Rich Attonito. The Cesar Gracie-trained BJJ brown belt had pulled off some nifty submissions against the likes of Mike Guymon and Greg Soto prior to that skid, but he's found his conditioning to be an issue in the recent losses.
Here's how the UFN 25 card, which airs live on Spike TV on September 17th, is currently shaping up:
Spike TV Main Card:
-Jake Shields vs. Jake Ellenberger
-Jonathan Brookins vs. Erik Koch
-Alan Belcher vs. Jason MacDonald
-Court McGee vs. Dongi Yang
Preliminary Card:
-Evan Dunham vs. Shamar Bailey
-Vagner Rocha vs. Cody McKenzie
-Matt Riddle vs. Lance Benoist
-Mackens Semerzier vs. Mike Lullo
-Damarques Johnson vs. Clay Harvison
-T.J. Waldburger vs. Daniel Roberts
-Ken Stone vs. Donny Walker

I'm pleasantly surprised that Ninja got another fight
he looked awful against Attonito.

I thought Roberts was gone. This should be fun.

outside of mcgee being there the main card is pretty nice
seeing koch and belcher obliterate brookins and macdonald should be fun even though i always pull for the athlete (terrible nickname)
hopefully mcgee makes it a fun scrap, and hopefully spike shows something on the prelim card

I thought that Roberts would get cut from the UFC after losing two fights in a row. This is an interesting fight as both will most likely take it to the ground, and Roberts really doesn’t have that good of standup.
