Newly signed #2 Hatsu Hioki will attempt to position himself for a shot at the winner of Aldo/Florian when he makes his Octagon debut at UFC 137 against George Roop. That fight card will also see #9 Tyson Griffin try to build on his successful featherweight debut against Bart Palaszewski.
#3 Chad Mendes will take on #17 Rani Yahya at UFC 133 to remain on the short list of contenders for Aldo's belt.
Based on the premise that all MMA rankings are subjective but that it’s still useful and informative to know who the online MMA community as a whole ranks as the best fighters in MMA, we collect and average the rankings of the top MMA websites to produce our consensus rankings. We compile the top MMA rankings from each of our sources and award 25 points for a first place ranking, 16 for a 10th place ranking, 1 for a 25th place ranking. A formula is used to "normalize" the data so all fighters are awarded points from those lists that do not include a full 25 fighters. This formula ensures that each ranking site awards the same number of total points regardless of how many fighters they choose to rank. Each fighter’s total is divided by the number of possible points to determine their standing in the Consensus Rankings.

I hate that Kenny Florian went straight to number 4 for beating the guy that was number 8 last month. At least Dallas and Derek had the good sense (Derek? What?) to rank him accordingly.

Thank you for that
I think he’s crazily overrated.
Of course, I don’t think Jacare has ever beaten a top 8 fighter, and you like him at 4 above Munoz (which is lunacy), but it’s whatevs. :D

Thanks Tim B
And for as opposing as Subo and I are on everything, it looks like we have similar ranking tastes.
Great lists all around, sir.

why are you so hard on kenny?
does being top 10 in a deeper weight class not count for anything?
- seems a bit overrated to me too, but not by much. if nunes is #8, then he can only be one or two spots too high.
i meant to say
“#4 seems a bit overrated to me”
not sure why it turned into a numbered list.
for the record, I would have kenny ahead of gambruyan, so #6 at least. i don’t have a problem with him being either ahead or beind of sandro or hominick. it’s all pretty close.
They finally posted odds for Aldo vs. Florian
Aldo -275
Florian +235
Does that sound about right for the ranking Florian is getting?

Me. And I’m a big fan of Hominick. Never compared my rankings alongside all the others before. I’m surprised he’s ranked that high. He’s lost to #17 Yahya and #29 Grispi and has only beaten #27 Roop and #37 Leonard Garcia. I can see how #5 is a fair ranking based on Hominick’s talent, though, even though I use a more results-based formula.

interesting points
i love hominick, but i hear what you’re saying. he’s getting a lot of mileage out of a performance that was, at the end of a day, a pretty brutal and one sided loss.
1. Aldo, 2. Hioki, 3. Mendes, 4. Sandro, 5. Florian, 6. Porier, 7. Nunes, 8. Yahya, 9. Kock, 10. Griffin
Anyone think Curran can be top 10 after his fight with Sandro?

UFC title shots do wonders for a fighter’s ranking, regardless of merit. It shouldn’t, but it does.

Florian is ranked way too high on the list in my opinion. He hasn’t accomplished much at FW to deserve such a ranking. That’s ranking simply based on pedigree.
I don't have him that high, but ...
It’s hard to ignore a guy’s history of being a perennial top 5 LW for half a decade.

The uproar over Kenny amazes me

4 Bellator fighters in top 20
Their roster in this weight class is pretty impressive.
