The fans finally get the fight they've been waiting for since January when #1 Frankie Edgar defends his belt a second time against #2 Gray Maynard at UFC 136.
That event will also feature a bit of a squash match between #8 Melvin Guillard and unranked Joe Lauzon as well as an interesting contest between #10 Anthony Pettis and Jeremy Stephens.
UFC on Versus 5 has a couple noteworthy lightweight fights with #23 Donald Cerrone taking on Charles Oliveira and #6 Jim Miller facing #14 Ben Henderson.
Based on the premise that all MMA rankings are subjective but that it’s still useful and informative to know who the online MMA community as a whole ranks as the best fighters in MMA, we collect and average the rankings of the top MMA websites to produce our consensus rankings. We compile the top MMA rankings from each of our sources and award 25 points for a first place ranking, 16 for a 10th place ranking, 1 for a 25th place ranking. A formula is used to "normalize" the data so all fighters are awarded points from those lists that do not include a full 25 fighters. This formula ensures that each ranking site awards the same number of total points regardless of how many fighters they choose to rank. Each fighter’s total is divided by the number of possible points to determine their standing in the Consensus Rankings.

It's % of the total possible points.

To my knowledge, BJ hasn't left 55 for good
Both he and Diaz are taking fights in either weight class, where someone like Florian has made a permanent switch to 45.
Besides, BJ was a god at LW and has only lost one close fight and one sound decision to the #1 fighter, and that was less than a year ago.

Florian is still ranked at LW too

For the second straight month
Aoki’s last fight was in DREAM and he is not under contract to Strikeforce. Kawajiri’s last fight was also with DREAM now, and I’m about 95% sure he is not under contract to Strikeforce either.
Also Josh Thomson does have a fight scheduled with Strikeforce in September so I would consider changing his designation too.
Pretty solid rankings.
1. Edgar, 2. Maynard, 3. Melendez, 4. Aoki, 5. Alvarez, 6. Miller, 7. Sherk, 8. Kawajiri, 9. Guida, 10. Pettis
at this point in his career
I think guillard is on his way to the top

Stop by and say hi lol
Dana needs to get these guys under one roof. LW is by far the best weight class and I want to see how Alvarez/ Melendez / Aoki fare in the UFC.
God damn LW is a shark tank!

Does being a UFC champ automatically make you #1 in your weight class?
Gray is undefeated and beat Frankie once (twice imo) and had a draw in the next bout. Why is he ranked below Edgar?

Apparently so. If Overeem being a multi Lineal champ can’t be number 1 , a division in which the clear cut #1 was beat by a UfC contender wouldn’t stand a chance to claim anyone else . BJ Penn was without a doubt the best LW in the world at the time , and he was beaten twice ( once IMO ) , and once soundly.

Maybe because "lineal champ" means fuck all

8. Kawajiri
9. Guillard
10. Pettis

I think I skew zuffa-centric on these
but does anybody really think that Kawajiri would have anything at all for Melvin Guillard?
