Strikeforce Confirms More Fights for September 10th Event

Photo

If the Strikeforce event scheduled for September 10th was already stacked enough with the semifinals of the Heavyweight Grand Prix, the promotion just upped the ante by confirming several other additions to the card on Twitter yesterday:

Jordan Mein's first opponent in Strikeforce? Evangelista Santos verbally agreed to for 9/10

Also agreed for Sept 10 if you didn't know - vs. , vs. , vs. Jacare

The event doesn't yet have a location set, but it's expected to air live on Showtime, and given how quickly the card is loading up with exciting fights, we can probably expect to see some of the prelims televised in some format, perhaps on HDNet as Strikeforce did with their last event.

Here's how the card is currently shaping up:

-Ronaldo Souza vs. Luke Rockhold - Strikeforce middleweight championship
-Josh Barnett vs. Sergei Kharitonov -
Heavyweight GP semifinal
-Antonio Silva vs. Daniel Cormier -
Heavyweight GP semifinal
-Roger Gracie vs. Muhammed Lawal
-Josh Thomson vs. Maximo Blanco
-Gegard Mousasi vs. Mike Kyle -
not yet confirmed
-Evangelista Santos vs. Jordan Mein

Its sick

With Reem it would be PPV worthy.

My interest

In the tourney is pretty much on life support. WTF is Dana and co thinking? To me, they were really scared of BigFoot upsetting him and didnt want to risk it. Sucks. I guess he just gets the winner of the tourney now?

Yeah, I've been one of the biggest proponents of the SF GP

and of Strikeforce in general, but losing the Reem is a huge blow. Of course I’ll still watch it, but I think Reem is a prohibitive favorite to win it all, and dropping him out is a killer.

Still a fantastic card, but if Overeem continues to hold out, I’m gonna be bummed.

Tatum: I think he's a good man. I like him. I got nothing against him, but I'm definitely gonna make orphans of his children.

WTF is Dana and co thinking?

October 1 – UFC on Versus 6
October 8 – UFC 136
October 15 – Hopkins versus Dawson (HBO)
October 22 – open
October 29 – UFC 137, Ward versus Froch (Showtime)

October is booked solid. The only weekend open for an event is October 22, and that is without taking into account the schedule of the arena. If there is a concert or something similar booked for the 22nd, or if Showtime has no interest in an MMA event on that date, what do you propose they do? Move it back to November to accommodate Alistair’s pinky toe?

I’m not blaming Alistair for backing out. If he is injured then he shouldn’t fight. But the show must go on.

You didn’t see Pride moving around Critical Countdown or Total Elimination shows in order to accommodate injured fighters. Why should anyone expect Zuffa to move around this show in order to accommodate Alistair? If he can’t fight on the scheduled date, then bring in an alternate. That is what they are there for.

Unbe-fuckin-lievable!!!

There is not a filler fight on the entire card. And as long as Overeem fights the tournament winner, even the tournament itself can be salvaged. Strikeforce BAYBEE!

It sucks Overeem held out but thank God we’re finally going to see Cormier fight a real opponent.

Getting bent out of shape over a fight promoter lying is like getting upset that a hooker won't kiss you. It betrays a deep lack of understanding of the nature of the profession.

Wouldn't it make more sense to have Werdum fill in?

It takes great work and thinking to keep from doing work.

Excellent card.

I thought Roger got hurt tho and wasn’t fighting King Mo? I am completely off base with this?

Goldie: Michael Jordanesque in his grappling skills is Travis Lutter

Rogan (with a sound of disgust in his voice): No, no, no he is not.

Goldie: He is not that good?

Damn, Luke Rockhold is one dreamy motherfucker.

Is Gracie/Mo still on? I was hearing rumors a ways back about Roger being injured and it was scrapped.

It was supposed to be on the Fedor vs Hendo card next week, but it got moved to this one instead because of the injury.

Wow this is quite a stacked card. Can’t wait!

I am over the Reem thing, this is equally as interesting. Cormier getting tossed in the deep end should be very revealing.

If heavyweight isn't the toughest division in the UFC, then why doesn't someone that can kick their asses move to it? They don’t even have to cut weight!!
