Strikeforce star, Cung Le, tells Fight Hype he wants to fight in the UFC, and more specifically, on the UFC 139 card in his hometown of San Jose, perhaps against Chris Leben:

PC: What's your current situation as far as your Strikeforce/Showtime deal? Could the UFC sign you to fight right now?
CL: I definitely have a different contract than the other fighters. Right now, it's all up to the UFC. There may be some roadblocks with the Showtime deal and the Showtime side of things, but we will see what happens.

PC: When would you like something to be ironed out and possibly fight again?
CL: Ever since I heard that Cain [Velasquez] was going to be fighting in San Jose. I would love to be on the same card

PC: At one point, there was a poll done and a lot of people wanted to see Cung Le vs. Anderson Silva. Not only is there Anderson now, but a lot of guys have emerged in the 185-pound division as contenders, such as Brian Stann, Mark Munoz, Chris Leben and Chael Sonnen. Would you be interested in any of those names? Are those the type of fights you're looking to make?
CL: You know, on Yahoo! Sports, there is a Cung Le vs. Leben thread if there was a cross promotion. Like I said, if the fans think it is an exciting fight for them to watch, I'm all for it.

UPDATE: Chris Leben is now confirmed to be fighting Mark Munoz at UFC 138, so it looks like Cung Le will have to find another opponent.

I'd be all for seeing him fight Leben

Not sure the fight does much for Leben but it would be fun.

Yeah. I see two scenarios

Cung Le using his kicks to make Leben at bay.
Leben getting in close and puts Le away.

I tend to be biased towards strikers . . . exciting strikers.

Either way

We win.

Yeah! Real nigga. ALL day! Just me. By myself. On the block. Holdin it down. Gun in my waist. Straight face. All day. Not a game. In jail. By myself. 1 bed. No pillow case. 1 pillow. You didn’t write me. It was early. Woke up. Went back to sleep. Took a nap. You ever go night night nigga? Everybody go night night nigga!

I think if you get kicked in the face you deserved it because that means you watched the foot come to your face.

If you out and some dude comes up and slaps you in the face while you with me? Than you just been slapped!

Even if this fight can perfectly go down the same way that Le vs Smith, I’m down to it. Cung Le brings great entertaining with his unorthodox striking and Sanshou techniques.

Cung Le could definitely grab a round or even two against Leben, but I have a hard time picturing it ending in any other fashion than him being brutally separated from consciousness.

nah bro

I could definitely see Leben knocking Cung out, but I don’t see how you think that’s the only outcome. Cung’s a good striker. I could see him peppering and frustrating Leben en route to a decision. I could see Leben showing up hungover and getting effed up. I don’t think Chris effing Leben totally outclasses Cung at anything except maybe mean-mugging.

Yes, let’s continue to give Cung matchups with brawlers who will stand with him and continually come forward so he can sidekick them in the ribs. Great idea to give a 39 year old actor yet another matchup that will let him showcase his skills before probably getting KO’d, rather than a fighter that will actually challenge him where he’s weak.

Or Cung could actually try and earn his spot in the UFC by fighting. Ever. At all. Against anyone.

At one point, there was a poll done and a lot of people wanted to see Cung Le vs. Anderson Silva.

Where was this poll taken? Gus Johnson’s mind?

I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

I know that I’m the minority here, but this fight doesn’t interest me at all.

Cung Le doesn't have boring fights

So he could fight Maynard, Lentz, and Fitch at the same time and it would be interesting.

You know what they say

At this point

I’d only be interested if Cung Le fought Sudsakorn in a Muay Thai bout. Then again, I want to see Sudsakorn fight anyone.

Whats a sudsakorn? A unicorn made out of soap bubbles?

by Wormwood on Jul 19, 2011 11:45 AM EDT up reply actions

Sudsakorn v. Storey may be the most entertaining fight of all time.

he would literally congratulate and hug Storey repeatedly for not going unconscious.

Meh.

Guy fights on average once in a blue moon, takes that time off to make shitty movies, and would probably get squashed by the wrestlers in the UFC. Sure. Let hime come over. But he’s not getting a guy like Leban. He’ll have to start from the bottom like everyone else.

I don’t think Le vs Leben would happen, especially since it looks like Leben is fighting Munoz. However, I would imagine that Le would not be treated the same as any other fighter if he ever signed to fight in the UFC. I don’t think that he’d get an immediate Title shot or anything like that, but I would think that the UFC (in a hypothetical situation where the UFC signs him) would give him someone as high in the ranks as Leben.
