Anthony Pettis vs. Jeremy Stephens Set for UFC 136
The UFC added even more depth to the already-incredible UFC 136 card, matching up hard-hitter Jeremy Stephens with former WEC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis. The tilt joins two title fights and a plethora of other top matchups on the October 8th card in Houston. UFC.com has it:
Two of the most exciting fighters in the lightweight division will face off as verbal agreements are in for Jeremy "Little Heathen" Stephens VS Anthony "Showtime" Pettis at UFC 136, UFC president Dana White confirmed today.
Pettis is coming off a loss in his first UFC fight against Clay Guida. Originally he was supposed to get a UFC lightweight title shot in his UFC debut, but the draw between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard at UFC 125 in January muddied the title waters in the division and Pettis was given a fight with Guida instead. The loss was a huge setback for him, but he'll try to get back into contention with a win over Stephens. Jeremy has won four out his last five fights and a win over Pettis would lift him into the upper echelon of the division.
Anthony Pettis (13-2)
Loss Clay Guida - Decision (Unanimous) TUF 13 Finale
Win Ben Henderson - Decision (Unanimous) WEC 53
Win Shane Roller - Submission (Triangle Choke) WEC 50
Jeremy "Lil Heathen" Stephens (20-6)
Win Danny Downes - Decision (Unanimous) TUF 13 Finale
Win Marcus Davis - KO (Punch) UFC 125
Loss Melvin Guillard - Decision (Split) UFC 119

Pettis needs to be built up, not thrown to the wolves.
What everyone needs to do is calm down, take a deep breath, and prepare their bodies for the Thunderdome.

Once you’re in the UFC, you’re thrown to the wolves damn near every time out. If you want to get built up, fight somewhere else.

I am satisfied with Joe Lauzon vs Melvin Guillard. Stephens vs Pettis makes sense, and it’ll be a good fight.

Now it will be Stephens who incurs the hatred of the Pettis fanboys after he takes a UD.
Sig betting against The-gentle-way is like playing Russian Roulette with a semi-automatic weapon. The only thing he knows more about than fighting is pleasing women, and my girlfriend is thankful for that.

You can't be telling me you believe that Guida was doing anything with top control
Aside from waving his hair and shrugging submission attempts.
Let the fighters fight, let the referees ref, but dear God, don't let the judges judge.
I'm not mad, but I can see how an uneventful decision loss could be a tough pill to swallow.
If Stephens outguns him there’s really not much to complain about.
And where are all these Pettis fanboys? I’ve seen maybe three Pettis fans and a whole shitload of people talking about how Guida ruled and Pettis was overhyped and “only had that one kick lol”.

I'm a huge Pettis fan
and the dude is more than just “one kick”. Guida didn’t do shit…at all in their fight. Stephens is going to be looking to strike with Pettis, so if Pettis gets knocked the fuck out or drops a solid decision to Stephens I’ll be perfectly ok with that, but not that wrestling/top control/stalling bull shit, fuck that shit.

Anthony Pettis isn’t the first fight he’s ground out.
And again, you actually think Pettis is going to lose? It kind of seems like you’re discrediting the guy because of the fervor of his fans. You can finish that comparison however you like.

With good old fashioned, homegrown violence.
I just visualize Pettis thinking he can come out with some spinning, inverted, off the cage doubledutch kick and Stephens countering that with “I’m gonna put my fist through your face.” If anything Pettis will probably be winning the fight for a good percentage of however long it lasts, but then out of nowhere he gets blasted harder than Michelle Bachman at a Bill Maher dinner party. No particular reason why I think this, I just have the feeling.

I could very well see this having a similar ending to Brown v. Faber I

I honestly don't get it
Why is creative and exciting striking getting frowned upon so hard by you and MDH? I mean seriously why, I’m just curious. I’d love to see some off-the-wall, creative Jackie Chan/Ong Bak shit in a real fight as opposed to some sloppy basic ass brawling. Lyoto’s flying front kick, Aldo’s double flying knees, Condit’s most recent knee, Andy’s…fucking everything about Andy’s strikes is what I look for in an mma fight, exciting shit. Why are blankets being heralded so high by you guys? I guess you guys root for Guida, Brennaman, Lentz and Fitch…

Just kidding around
I do think he has a good chance of getting his light switch turnded off by Jeremy, but I like all of his zany moves (what a character).

Holy shit is this gonna be off topic,
but I just realized that in Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, at the end when the two white yuppies Harold works with show up at White Castle with two random floozies one of the girls is played by the gross McPoyle sister from It’s Always Sunny (and she was actually looking pretty penetrable).

I enjoy his exciting style too
It is just far more exciting when he is fighting lower level talent that he can execute it on.

Lower level talent like Jeremy Stephens?
I mean, Bendo would beat Stephens.

God damn this has fire works written all over it. They should def put this on spike and let everyone see Pettis striking ability with someone who actually actually stand not hump him to death. Great fight!!
