The lightweight championship will be on the line again when champion Frankie Edgar defends his title against No. 1 contender Gray Maynard at UFC 136 in Houston, the UFC announced Friday.

Edgar and Maynard originally were scheduled to meet for the third time at UFC 130 in May, but that bout was scrapped when both fighters pulled out due to injures. Now, they will meet again Oct. 8.

The two fought to a draw in a "Fight of the Year" candidate at UFC 125 in January. Maynard (10-0-1, 1 no contest) had Edgar (13-1-1) badly hurt in the first round but could not finish him. Edgar would rally to force a draw.

Judge Patricia Morse-Jarman scored the bout 47-47 while Glenn Trowbridge saw it 48-46 for Maynard and Marcos Rosales scored it the other way, 48-46 for Edgar.

The two originally met at UFC Fight Night 13 in April 2008. Maynard dominated the action, earning a 30-27 win on all three scorecards.
