UFC 137 is already looking to be one of the more stacked cards of the year, and another top heavyweight fight was apparently just added to the card. Matt Mitrione and Cheick Kongo will face off in a heavyweight battle on October 29th, according to Brett Okamoto of ESPN. The UFC twitter account retweeted Brett's announcement, which likely means that it's a go:
Big boys! Cro Cop/Nelson on the same card as this! RT @bokamotoESPN Breaking: Matt Mitrione vs. Cheick Kongo. Oct, in Vegas. es.pn/nhELSQ
As the tweet states, this comes just one day after Mirko Cro Cop vs. Roy Nelson was added to the card. Mitrione and Kongo both picked up huge victories on the UFC on Versus 4 card last month. Kongo scored one of the best comeback victories in recent memory with his knockout of Pat Barry, while Mitrione dominated and eventually knocked out Christian Morecraft. When you add in a main event of Georges St. Pierre vs. Nick Diaz and the debut of Hatsu Hioki, you've got one excellent card already.
Cheick Kongo (16-6-2)
Win Pat Barry - KO (Punch) UFC on Versus 4
Draw Travis Browne UFC 120
Win Paul Buentello - Submission (Elbows to body) UFC on Versus 1
Matt Mitrione (5-0)
Win Christian Morecraft - KO (Punches) UFC on Versus 4
Win Tim Hague - TKO (Punches) UFC Fight for the Troops 2
Win Joey Beltran - Decision (Unanimous) UFC 119
