Nate Marquardt Suspension Lifted by Pennsylvania Commission
And now for something completely different.
Nate Marquardt is no longer under suspension. Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission executive director Greg Sirb told MMA Weekly that it was "lifted today."
Marquardt was scheduled to fight Rick Story in the main event of UFC on Versus 4 two weeks ago. A week before the fight, a blood test administered by the New Jersey commission revealed levels of testosterone above the allowed limit. Pennsylvania told Marquardt that his levels would need to fall within an acceptable range or he would not be allowed to fight.
By Saturday, Marquardt's testosterone levels had fallen, but still put him out of range. Pennsylvania informed the UFC that they would not allow him to fight. UFC President Dana White released Marquardt via Twitter later that day.
Marquardt has yet to sign with another promotion, but rumors indicate heavy interest from Bellator. Ben Askren and Hector Lombard , Bellator's welter- and middleweight champions, respectively, have both called out the former King of Pancrase in the last two weeks.

Will he go to Bellator?
I know Dana says never again but who knows if that means anything. Going to Bellator would basically be the end of any chance he comes back to the UFC.
he's gotta fight somewhere
slim pickings out there.

Bellator is pretty well financed though right?
I get the sense that he could sign an actual contract with them, where that might not be an option with the other two. Could be wrong though, I don’t really know anything about the Shark Fights business model (though I did buy one of their fights).

He may well end up signing with Bellator
Who knows. Just if he does, with the way their contracts are structured, that’s it for him. That’s the rest of his career. Any slim hopes of getting back to the big show will be over because there’s no way he’ll ever get out of his contract with Bellator unless he’s a complete flop.
there’s room for negotiation with Bellator. Alvarez has a sweet contract with them, I thnk. No champions clause, can fight for other Orgs with permission, etc. Not likely Nate gets that treatment, though.
I bet Alvarez does have a champions clause
He’s the promotions best asset, no way do they not have some kind of protection against him jumping shit.
Is that part of his training?
Jumping shit that is.
"What the ancients called a clever fighter is one who not only wins, but excels in winning with ease."
I'm sure he does
The reason he has a sweet contract is he is one of highest paid fighters in the sport.
that might be a benefit towards the other guys. Depending on how strong his camp feels Dana’s interpretation of “never” is this week, he might not want to tie himself down with bellator. A 3 fight contract with bellator could mean years away from the ufc because he will either lose one of those fights and hurt his resume, or win them all and get caught up in a champions’ clause.
Depending on the size of the contract
a champions clause might not be worst thing that could happen to Nate. He’s kind of a man without a home in the UFC, even if he does get back on Dana’s good side. At MW he’s already lost to the two guys at the top of the division, and he’s basically untested at WW.
In Bellator, he could pick his weight, draw a check, and fight regularly in a non crowded division. Not the worst of fates. Eddie Alvarez seems to be doing ok.

I agree
Might be for the best actually. And maybe we’ll get a better idea of where Lombard and/or Askren stand as well…

He’s a perennial top 10 middleweight who has fought under the Zuffa banner for a significant amount of time. The lifting of the suspension means that he’s pretty much ripe for picking by any promotion who would want him. So yeah, his narrative is pretty interesting still.
Of course?
Excluding the point deduction loss to Leites, he has pretty clearly shown that he is a top middleweight, only losing to the top 3 in the division. He is a big factor, especially if he finds success at 170.
Nates gonna be champ wherever he goes.
Pretty sure bet.
Unless he goes to Bellator.
