Andre Winner Released by the UFC Following Loss to Anthony Njokuani
The Ultimate Fighter Season 9 finalist, Andre Winner has been cut from the UFC, is following his decision loss to Anthony Njokuani. The Team Rough House product was on the Facebook and Spike TV prelims on UFC 132, where he was thoroughly dominated in the stand up department and lost a lopsided decision with the scores, 30-27, and 30-26 twice.
The performance marked his third straight loss, and dropped his overall record to 11-6-1. Winner has gone 2-4 with the UFC since he moved out of the TUF house, with two of those wins coming from Rafaello Oliveira and Roli Delgado.

Saw it coming
Showed a lot of promise in the TUF finale against Pearson and the couple of wins following, but started dwindling away afterwards.
Still no word on Joe Daddy getting the axe? I’m a fan of the guy but nobody should keep their job after 4 consecutive losses.
nope

Jens Pulver had 5 straight losses in the WEC before getting cut.
Ortiz, had 3 straight losses, a draw, and another loss. Didn’t get cut.
Baroni had 4 straight before getting cut the first time.

Yeah it is getting ridicolous
Him and Hardy are both getting treated a lot better than every other fighter it seems.
They are two guys with relatively high name recognition who can help sell PPVs
Dana isn’t treating them well out of the goodness of his heart (well, maybe a little with Joe Daddy) but because the UFC thinks they still have value on cards. I guarantee you that the UFC is praying for Dan Hardy to at least be competitive against Lytle so they can make a case for hanging onto one of their two British attractions.

Not many easy fights at LW. Losses to Lentz, Siver and Njokuani are nothing to be ashamed of.
Hit straight, hit hard, lift heavy.

Agreed
but if you can’t beat those guys, it doesn’t get any easier in that division.

Personally I don’t think any fights are easy. If they were we would see fighters getting defeated easily (read: stopped within Round 1) by many different fighters.
Unfortunately Winner has been defeated by many different fighters but not stopped.
I tend to be biased towards strikers . . . exciting strikers.

All the talk Dana did about moving fighters over to strikeforce,
Why don’t they just do that with Winner? Just see how he does over there before fully releasing him.

That could ruin the Showtime relationship.
No idea if they will build on it though. But I think using Strikeforce as a feeder-organisation for lesser talent could be a bad strategical move. I think the Showtime execs are not that dumb and would make problems.
"No man dies for what he knows to be true. Men die for what they want to be true, for what some terror in their hearts tells them is not true."
my guess
is that if he can win a couple in the actual small feeder leagues (MFC bout vs McKee?) SF might sign him then.

that's why I said if
Nik Lentz snored his way to victory against Winner. Wouldn’t be surprised if McKee could do the same.

Andre Winner isn't even Strikeforce level, people
He has little KO power despite what the UFC says (and Rolando Delgado is not a good fighter in the slightest) and is obviously defensively challenged.
Please continue the TUF exodus, Dana.
So close and yet so far. The story of my sports fandom.
Winner is talented; lightweight is just so stacked.
And Roli is a decent fighter: not ready for the UFC when he got knocked out by Winner, but he’s doing pretty decent at 145 all things considered.
He has some skills but he's one-dimensional
and the fact that he got handled by a WEC guy who has never threatened contention is telling that he’s so far back of the pack he doesn’t belong in the UFC.

This sounds right. Winner lost three in a row, and while he is British, he honestly doesn’t contribute that much to the UFC seeing that he is a lower-tier Lightweight at this point. He needs to polish up his skills in the smaller MMA organizations before fighting in the biggest MMA organization.
