Report: John Makdessi vs. Paul Taylor Planned for UFC on Versus 5
A lightweight bout featuring two of the UFC's most talented strikers should prove to be quite an exciting one, when John Makdessi meets Paul Taylor at UFC on Versus 5 in Milwaukee on August 14th. Tomas Rios reports on Twitter that the bout has been verbally agreed to and is awaiting Taylor's signature to make it official:
Some news for you since you all put up with me, John Makdessi vs. Paul Taylor. UFC Live 5. Waiting on Taylor to sign off.
Both men are coming off highlight-reel KO wins, with Makdessi putting Kyle Watson away via spinning backfist at UFC 129, while Taylor put Gabe Ruediger to sleep with a head kick at UFC 126. Although it doesn't appear that this fight will make the Versus main card, it should be a front-runner to be aired via Facebook if the UFC decides to go that route with the prelims, as they have lately. Taylor is still seeking his first set of consecutive wins in the UFC, while Makdessi remains undefeated, but Taylor has certainly faced tougher competition in his UFC run (Chris Lytle, Sam Stout, John Hathaway, Marcus Davis).
John "The Bull" Makdessi (9-0)
Win Kyle Watson (KO - spinning backfist) - UFC 129
Win Pat Audinwood (unanimous decision) - UFC 124
Win Bendy Casimir (unanimous decision) - MFL 3
Paul "Relentless" Taylor (11-6-1)
Win Gabe Ruediger (KO - head kick) - UFC 126
Loss Sam Stout (split decision) - UFC 121
Loss John Hathaway (unanimous decision) - UFC 105

Nice matchup for Makdessi.
I see him winning with that heavy left hand. Sooner or later he’ll have to face a top caliber wrestler though, where I see his lack of size as being his downfall. Based on his frame, you’d think he could cut to 145 comfortably.
haha
yeah his time will come as well, unfortunately :(

I like it
Taylor has much, much more experience and an iron chin. Definitely tougher than the other two guys Makdessi has already beaten.

Im a bit of a Taylor fan..
Guy always brings it, although he goes to decisions too frequently.
And everyone enjoyed seeing Gabe get KTFO.
Could see him being cut if he drops this one, however being English they might keep him around.
Anyone source the Ruediger KO gif?
Yesss,. thats the one..
Those women cageside look about as impressed as any female would look after seeing Ken Jeongs dick.

This isn't a great fight by itself
but it is a great chance for Makdessi to get some more valuable ring time. He should get a limited grappler after this like Volkmann.

He should get a limited grappler after this
Anthony Pettis? ;)

I think Taylor takes this
He’s a good fighter and I feel like he’s been Garcia’d a few times too.
Why the fuck hasn't Makdessi dropped to 145
Against Watson he looked damn near like a bantamweight. 145 needs contenders like yesterday, at 155 you could win every fight in the UFC for two years and still be waiting in the wings.
Clay Guida ensured that I’m now & forever wrxdonkey’s bitch.
Love Paul Taylor. He brings it every fight.
