Neil Melanson, the head jiu-jitsu trainer at Xtreme Couture, chose a four-toed foot over staying out of the gym for a year. His toe had suffered severe arthritic damage and could have healed with the time off but Melanson wasn't willing to wait that long, so he had it amputated. Ouch.

I can’t help but feel that is going to be a bad decision that will be regretted later.

That toes is pretty important for shooting.

Acceleration comes right off that toe. Top flight sprinters will often have a second and/or third toe that is longer than most people’s. It doesn’t seem like it would make a difference, but it does.

It takes complete dedication to your craft to willingly sacrifice a part of your body for it. I’ve always respected Neil, but now I respect him even more.

In the clearing stands a boxer And a fighter by his trade And he carries the reminders Of ev'ry glove that layed him down Or cut him till he cried out In his anger and his shame "I am leaving, I am leaving" But the fighter still remains

Weird

Just read about Stephen Turboz, a Navy SEAL who decided to have his whole foot amputated so he didn’t have to stay out of combat. Ye

Hey Neil:

You want a toe? I can get you a toe. There are ways, dude. You don’t want to know about it, believe me.
