How's Taste My Tweet Tweet? Mixed Martial Arts on Twitter for the 4th Week of June

2itlilk_medium

A few updates on what's been going on in the MMA Twitterverse

RANDOM TWIDBITS

"Not a very impressive performance for Werdum or Overeem. The winner of this fight was Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos."  -

"I hope Cormier beats Monson so bad that the anarchist finally leaves this country he bitches about so much & heads to Mexico, I heR things r better there"  -Brian Stann, is probably not getting a twitter bonus after this shameful tweet.

"It's everything ok with my hands, they are just a litle bit inflamed it's normal for someone who hits hard haha"  -Junior dos Santos

"I had a car accident on 16th of July. I broke my left knee and it seems require surgery."  -Riki Fukuda, had to pull out of his UFC bout. Here's to a quick recovery.

"so I was just named the 5th most controversial fighter in the world lol."  -Michael Bisping

"Sorry I haven't been tweeting. In Vegas shooting TUF- I've been using all of my funny up on reality TV, card dealers and drunken whores... Joking about tv, card dealers and drunken whores. I'm using all my funny up on an overrated dirty-fighter with a snooty accent."  -Jason Miller

"Wife walk into bedroom & says to husband, "Shall I slip into something that will make you smile?" Hubby replies, "Yes. A coma u c*nt!""  -David Haye, believe it or not, the pro boxer might be facing a sanction for this tweet...

MARKETING...

"I'm sorry that the brilliance of my words goes over your heads.I'm not going to stop being an eagle just because I am surrounded by turkeys."  -Chael Sonnen

"Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy ringside seats to Wandy's next humiliating loss, and that's pretty much the same thing."  -Chael Sonnen

"Half of a fighter's career is training and competing; the other half is marketing. Updating your "OK Cupid" profile doesn't count, Wandy."  -Chael Sonnen, true, but it's pretty sad to see some people forced to stick to that other half.

WAR MACHINE IS GETTING OUT OF JAIL NEXT MONTH

"I'm in pretty good shape now, given my circumstances, but doing the same shit over and over again wears on you. Sucks though cuz options are limited when you're stuck in a cell 24/7. Just need to keep at it another month until I get out so I can hit the gym and be ready to fight ASAP!! I heard BAMMA is having a show on Sept. 10th and I really want on it! That's only 10 weeks of real training after 12 months of nothing but I'm confident that I'll bounce back quick and be able to beat some ass by Sept. 10th! F*ck! I hope I can get on that card! And once I'm in shape and got my 1st fight back out of the way, I'm gonna keep on scrappin' non-stop so promoters EVERYWHERE  need to throw fights at me non-stop! F*ck fighting a few times/year - I'm gonna do a Jeremy Horn and fight all the time."  -War Machine

There's a ton of tweets after the jump, but first, don't forget to follow:

SO WHY DON'T YOU MOVE TO RUSSIA?!

Just kidding, that kind of nose in the air patriotism is disgusting and really just makes Mr. Stann seem like an embittered seventy year old who regularly votes against his best interests.

There is a lot of crap laws out there that impede our ability to express ourselve and our ability to move freely about.

I’m sorry but a great example is that crap we put up with at the airports with the strip searches and the feeling up of handicap people. There is one airline in the world now that really learned about hijacking and what you have to do in order to contain it and that is El Al from Israel. Guess what they do, they profile. Oh my God and guess what it is successfull. But no we have to put up with PC bullshit and have six year olds padded down. I am as patriotic as the next guy and I love the USA for giving my parents a chance in this country but in this aspect I say Screw you.

Focusing on or largely excluding those with certain affiliations, of certain nationalities, of certain religious backgrounds, travel patterns and the like as Israel does would be a far more efficient and effective use of our resources, and minimize the delays to everyone else, but I don’t see it ever being feasible.

Yes, the government already has this sort of information (and far, far more) on everyone, but to openly acknowledge its existence, much less its use, is something that will never happen.

I live in Austin TX, and a shark attack scares me more than flying.

I’m not going to take the time to look up the quote but it’s something like “Those that would sacrifice freedom for security deserve neither” Also we don’t live in Israel so I don’t see why we should do what they do. America isn’t a war zone we don’t need to go to the same extremes as Israel.

Having flown El Al, I completely agree

They don’t feel your balls up, but security there is still awful. I had to deal with something like twenty minutes of questioning involving such illuminating questions as “Who is your rabbi?” and “What was your torah portion?” last time I went.

“Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”

It’s by Benjamin Franklin, though it’s often attributed to Thomas Jefferson. It’s also one of the inscriptions in the Statue of Liberty.

The war hero is off limits?

Stann seemed like a bright guy, he really should know better than that. His comment reeks of ignorance, I have plenty of friends in a similar situation (Veterans that don’t take kindly to America bashing) and I don’t think any of them would have made such a comment.

What ever though, at least he’s a good fighter I’ll still watch of course.

This statement is dead on.

As a member of a family with numerous veterans, including bothers, I myself never enlisted. Part of being a soldier is being highly indoctrinated to the point that you don’t question orders and carry out actions under the guise/belief/etc. that you are doing it for the greater good of America. How the hell else can you willingly risk your life for something that really doesn’t affect you at the personal level (barring some life event that prompted the enlistment).

What is interesting is once that indoctrination wears off (my personal family experience only), many of my uncles, cousins, and even one brother never wanted a thing to do with the military again and thought their time was pointless in affecting change. I think Stann has the whole “I am a real American” song playing on a loop to keep him in character. That’s his appeal, he knows it.

Much respect to soldiers either way.

Militarily that indoctrination is improtant to winning battles. Thus following orders and striving to achieve its goals.

Thus indoctrination in that way is necessary for an effective fighting force. This goes from Ancient ROME to now.

Don't beat yourself up too much

If America had suffered a comparable level of human and industrial devastation as mainland Europe did last century we wouldn’t be in the current economic position nor would we have the current cultural attitude. Militaries need two things to be effective: training and resources. The U.S. has adequate training and unbelievable resources. We also have a culture that’s generally positive to service and tradition which also helps.

Cajuns are French. Cajuns landed in Nova Scotia and then got caught in the middle of the French Indian war and got exiled to Louisiana by the British because they wanted to stay neutral and not help either side. So we kind of turned our backs on the French in a way. Many were killed. Some became awesome like me.

For the record a majority of Americans supported the war at its inception but over time it has had ups and down of oppossition and support. Just because we hear nut job like answer yelling not in our name doesnt make their political clap trap true. But was Iraq worth it. No. Did Saddam do anything this time around? No. Was it a personal war for Bush? Ya. This was Bush saying you hurt my Daddy. The only war I agreed with was Afghanistan. The Iraq and now LIbya is a bunch of bull. I hope congress enforces the War Powers act.

Don't see the justification for that opening statement

Unpopular as Sylvia is, the facts are that right now Stann hasn’t accomplished a fraction of what Big Tim has in his career. Sylvia actually had pretty damn good sub defence and was obviously far bigger and stronger than Stann.
The comparison is deeply flawed imo

They fought in a war. Many of them sacrificed their lives. Your logic would seem to imply that this automatically makes them heroes and noone has the right to analyse the situation any further than that

I have to disagree. You can have a war hero in a unpopular war because regardless of reasoning behind it, the men and women who do the actual fighting are putting themselves in harms way for the sake of others. They aren’t doing because they support the war, they are doing because they support their government and their fellow countrymen.

I am 100% against the war and believe we should leave both, now. But that would never stop me from buying a soldier a drink everytime i come across one.

Is someone a “war hero” if they were involved in a war most of america doesnt want , was approved by congess based on lies and the country he was fighting in never attacked America until America invaded?

Yes.

It’s not the place of the members of the armed forces to question their orders, they only need to follow them in the most efficient way possible. Stann did this incredibly well, and he successfully looked out for the lives of his brother’s around him.

Criticize the war all you’d like, but once the boots hit the ground, anyone who shows valor and skill in carrying out the stated mission and protecting his men is a war hero.

Yeah, they are

A hero triumphs the ideals of the society they represent. By that sense, they’re heros.

An example of this is the respect forces often show when they capture a particularly effective enemy. The Red Baron is still spoken of reverently in the US, even though he fought for Germany.

Pellegrino mentioned in his retirement statement that he disliked being away from his family for so long

Kennedy then made some comment pointing out that dudes in the armed forces have to spend longer away from theirs.
It came across to most people as very disrespectful towards Pellegrino as well as being both obvious and totally irrelevent

Agreed

I tweeted Stann that what he said was disappointing and close minded and of course got flamed on Twitter by people saying Stann can say whatever he wants and if you don’t like America GTFO. Glad to see some people agree with me. America was built on open discourse between conflicting points of view and that is why it’s such a great country. Kicking people out because they have a different point of view destroys one of the best things about America. I expected better from Stann.

Conflicting points of view is the critical factor

That requires legitimate, sincere thought. It requires candid analysis of previous examples and honest discourse with a given level of civility and respect.

None of that is present in Stann’s tweet and that is what makes him look like a dickfuck.

Republics only work when they're led by statesmen who are selected by informed and thoughtful voters

America has the benefit of a massive military, economy, and access to natural resources. That doesn’t make us immune to stupid decisions, especially when we keep making the same ones over and over.

More than anything, purging ourselves of hypocritical and contradictory demands would do a world of good in getting our house in order.

Brian Stann, defender of freedom, using his own to limit another American’s, is a depressingly common example of this type of bullshit.

True, and we are suffering the long, slow decay as our era of hegemony comes to a close a few decades hence…

Our republic has too many democratic elements to avoid the fate common to all true democracies (voting to open the treasury doors, so to speak).

That and the extremely short-term POV that our election system mandates our politicians to take, regardless of the consequences down the road.

Many liken it to “kicking the can down the road”, I consider it more like rolling a snowball down a hill…

I was a fan of the Ali G show and Borat before the movie ever came out, so you know.. I thought the movie was definitely very good, but not as great as the hype would have you think. Like there were a couple of re-done themes and ideas from the original tv-show that they did again for the movie, only a little bit worse. So, like the pretentious snob-asshole I am, I would be a little annoyed by that, and by all the new Borat fans who never saw the tv-show. I can’t answer if I was stoned or not when I saw it though, but I guess there is a very strong possibility.

I ran into him outside Rogers Arena just after UFC 131...

…I could not believe it. He looked like any 20 something wearing skate shoes, jeans and a T-shirt. Skinny arms, small in stature. I definitely did a double take and then my friend and I had a good laugh at the fact that one of the most dangerous men on the planet looked so nondescript.

But he does look huge in that photo!

Yea I got a few

Long story short: Met a carribean girl one night after getting lost countless of times in DC/MD. Petite girl with a short temper. Took her to dinner, tried NOT to acknowledge her lazy eye (she did first). She wanted to meet her friends so we chilled in my car for awhile. Took her home, got chewed out for not rolling with her friends. Rolled with her friends, drinks, bought her a flower and teased each other at the pool hall and in her friends car. Chilled at her house. Then told her I’d tried to see her again cause I was involved in a play.
Then she switched all of a sudden and figured I wouldn’t come back which I told her I would cause i was digging her. Then she said she didn’t want to see me all of a sudden and (this is all true) said that she might break my neck like she broke the neck of her first cat. I left, it was 4 am, low on gas, needed to use the bathroom, didn’t give a fuck.
Her latest picture she’s groping another woman and is looking real butch.

True story

No need, I am just hoping someone here can recall what that movie was. Early to mid 70’s I would guess, although that is not certain.

IIRC the cobra actually won because the area wasn’t big enough for the mongoose to maneuver the way it does.

As a Mexican I don’t care that he throws my country under the bus here as that was just plain dumb to say, but what really bother me is that he seems to take a snipe at Monson for a misunderstood ideological place. maybe he should be more mature and just say “I don’t understand Jeff Monson,” and leave it at that.

That particular kind of mentality he displays leaves out the chance for any kind of dialogue to take place.
