One FC to Debut This September, Eduard Folayang vs. Ole Laursen Set
One FC, a new Singapore-based promotion is set to host their debut event this September. Victor Cui, the same person who brought us 12 cards from top Asian promotion, ESPN Martial Combat, is set to spearhead this new promotion that promises to determine the top Mixed Martial Arts star in Asia. Their goal, to pit 16 different World, and National champions against each other in order to crown the one true champ from Asia.
They're hosting their first show on September 3rd, and while the fight card hasn't been finalized or announced yet, sources have informed BloodyElbow.com that a lightweight bout between URCC welterweight champion, Eduard Folayang, and Muay Thai champ turned MMA star, Ole Laursen has been set. The bout is currently penciled in as their co-headlining bout.
Folayang (9-1), is a multi-titled Wushu expert, and is one of the most popular MMA fighters from the Philippines. Laursen (5-2), on the other hand, is a Filipino born Danish fighter. He's an accomplished kickboxer who has also been doing very well in MMA, that our own Leland Roling ranked him as the #8 lightweight, in the World MMA Scouting Report. Both guys became Martial Combat Super-Fight champions last year, and both guys are currently riding lengthy win streaks. As most of their fights, their contrasting styles should guarantee that this would be a very entertaining battle.
Japanese MMA is on the decline, and while One FC has a very lofty goal, if they can pull it off, they have the potential to rise and be one of the premier organizations in the continent. As with all debuting promotions, we have yet to see if they can constantly host events, or if they can actually get the top guys needed to achieve and legitimize their goals. One thing is for sure though, booking this match up is a step in the right direction.
More updates from the Asian MMA scene after the jump.
- Thailand, the breeding ground of the world's best Muay Thai fighters, will be having a historic event this weekend, as 'DARE' will be hosting the country's biggest MMA event yet. If this promotion gets some traction, we could have a chance to see a wave of talented Muay Thai fighters making the jump to MMA.
- Legend FC 5 will happen this July in Macau, and it will be headlined by 2 title bouts. The main event will feature a welterweight championship bout between Bae Myung Ho of Korea as he tries to take the belt from current champ, Rod MacSwain of New Zealand. The co-headlining bout will be the finals of their Bantamweight tournament which will pit Korea's Jo Nam Jin and China's Yao Honggang, to crown Legend FC's first 135 lb. champion. Also on the card, the first round of their Featherweight tournament.
- URCC, the Philippines' top MMA promotion, is hosting one of their regional shows in Davao on August 21st. They're planning to crown the first regional URCC Mindanao Champion from the event.
- Also, their next major show will happen this November, and as URCC 20 is starting to shape up, it is promising to be one of the most stacked events in Asian MMA history. Plans are already in place to have multiple championships on the line, with the Heavyweight, Cruiserweight, Middleweight, and Bantamweight titles likely to be up for grabs that night.
- Aside from title fights from those divisions mentioned, there are also rumors that Kevin Belingon's flyweight title and a super-fight title would also be on the line. Things aren't finalized yet, but the URCC's 20th major show is starting to shape up as their biggest and best one yet.

Apparently,
when a champion from another sport decides to cross over and wins several matches, people aren’t allowed to say “Guys, you should keep an eye out for this guy cause he’s also doing very well in MMA!”
Robert Drysdale at 3-0 shouldn’t even be complimented for being a quality prospect that is doing very well after deciding to jump to MMA. Oh, and there’s also been a ton of guys who have been doing even better than “very well” before they had their 10th bout: Cain Velasquez, Jon Jones, Brock Lesnar, Lyoto Machida, Randy Couture, Frank Mir, BJ Penn, and a lot more.
This isn’t boxing where you have to be 10-0 or 15-0 before people start considering you a quality prospect.

I know it won't or can't happen but it would be cool if
They had a tournament in each weight class and the UFC made a deal with them to have there tournament winners move over to the UFC.
" Its like when I'm right I'm right, when I'm wrong I coulda been right, so I'm still right cause I coulda been wrong, you know, and I'm sorry cause I could be wrong right now, I could be wrong, but I'm right..." Bama
Laursen vs. Folayang isn’t the big international starpower that’s allegedly been promised for this org, but it’s a terrific matchup between two of the very best in that region.
it'll be interesting to see the headliner
wonder what kinda star power they’ll actually be able to pull

Well this is just their co-headlining bout,
and it really is a good matchup… so I’m guessing the headliner must be a lot better…
anyway, here’s their slogan:

16 World Champion and National Champions will compete in Mixed Martial Arts to be crowned the best in Asia.

Will that be broadcast anywhere?
I hate it when you guys run news like this and I’m left to wonder if I will ever get to see any of it. ;)

James Goyder already answered this.
It will be on ESPN all over Asia… plus, it is also very likely that they post the fight videos online some time after the event ends.

The best way for them to pull off surpassing Japanese MMA is
to somehow be able to stream the fights globally. Maybe even posting them up on youtube afterwards.
They posted all the Martial Combat fights online on Vimeo and youtube.
They also had an ESPN TV deal that broadcasts all over Asia, (not 100% sure if OneFC will get the same treatment) but I’m pretty sure they know what they’re doing.

Oh I didn't know that
that’s pretty cool. Do you know if there is a live stream in America? Then again it will probably happen in the morning over here so it doesn’t matter as much.
Not sure,
I don’t think Martial Combat streamed it live, so I’m not sure if OneFC will do the same. They were quick to upload videos though, so I guess we will just have to wait a bit… or pay attention to James Goyder’s reports. :)

They have a domestic TV deal in Singapore so the show will be broadcast to every single household in Singapore and the ESPN Star deal puts it in 24 countries. That’s a potential viewing audience which must be higher than any other MMA show on the planet?
Japanese MMA shows only seem to be interested in Japanese audiences so they don’t really get much of an international audience outside of hardcore MMA fans who are going to watch every event anyway.
This show is going to have mainstream appeal and be broadcast to country’s where no-one has even heard of the UFC. It’s not a question of stealing existing UFC fans, it’s a question of introducing MMA to audiences in Asia who simply don’t know about it at present.
Talking about having a massive main event is slightly missing the point. People in, say, Mongolia would not too excited about a card featuring Cain Velasquez vs Alistair Overeem because they have never heard of either fighter. They might get excited about a card which featured a Mongolian though. There is a big difference between trying to chip away at the UFC’s market share and trying to break into a completely new market.

yep.
they have the reach. Now it’s just the matter of getting people interested in their product…

So do these guys have the money backing them to buy up talent?

Who cares?
If the winner of the tournament leaves One for the UFC, who exactly loses in that situation? This is where MMA orgs should be focusing – local talent, regional interest and building contenders in the hope that they WILL leave one day and bring honor to where they came from (or come back and try to hone his skills on the lower circuits again).

Not that being the UFC’s feeder league in Asia is a bad thing but from the looks of it they want to become the UFC of Asia. They can let some of their talent go off to the UFC but if they want to be come big there going to need money to get things goin and sustainable.

ah!
forgot about that show. my bad. I’ll add it in.

thanks.
Added it now… Jo nam jin has already lost to Belingon, but that young dude is a VERY entertaining fighter. He’s probably the underdog going in to the title fight, but I hope he does well.

Folayang is awesome but mein gott his wild punches make me worried sometimes! Vuyisile was really starting to pour on the hot sauce against him in the third round.
True.
Folayang is at his best when he is patient and stays at the outside using his Wushu base, but he really has a tendency to brawl even when he doesn’t need to…
But yes, Colossa really is a top notch striker.
by Anton Tabuena on Jun 22, 2011 2:42 AM EDT up reply actions
Colossa is a very, very good fighter I really think he has the talent to go a long way in MMA. His striking is already as good as just about anyone’s in the sport and his ground game looks pretty solid too.
That fight definitely wasn’t Folayang’s most impressive performance but I don’t think you should underestimate how good his opponent was and you have to give him credit for digging deep and finding a way to win.
by James Goyder on Jun 22, 2011 4:31 AM EDT up reply actions
I wasn't.
and I completely agree with all of that… Very impressed with Colossa. He already has great striking, but I like how he’s really improving his ground game as well.

That's awesome
Never watched any of the Asian MMA promos before, but I just watched some Martial Combat and URCC. It’s a much higher quality product than I expected, and it’s in English. I hope HDNet picks up one of these shows, especially now that Japanese MMA is at a low point.
Holy crap, i just scouted their FB page and official website. This is a big step up from Martial Combat.
Its on free TV (in Singapore), it is taking place in Singapore Indoor Stadium (biggest indoor avenue in Singapore), and it has Krazy Bee fighters participating!
Definitely will be there for the show, especially with some of my ex-trainers participating.
awesome.
being on free TV available to EVERYONE in Singapore is a really good thing. Hoping it gets big there, and possibly have shows around Asia.
