The Reem was protecting his brand and fighting safe. I was only disappointed he gassed hard. Give him some time. Cain may never be the same again, as well as Brock. Carwin is aging rapidly.

Excited to listen to the replay
Wish I could stay and chat throughout the show but schoolwork comes first.
Wanted to quote something Tim Burke said on last nights BE Post fight radio show thread:
They both bought into each other’s reputations, and wouldn’t mess with their opponent in their particular world. Overcompensated for it instead of just respecting your own skills and fighting.
Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way round or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves. - Bruce Lee
Who gets #3?
Brock Lesnar who has only fought twice in the last year, getting killed by Cain and barely beating Carwin?
Carwin, who lost to Lesnar and got destroyed by JDS?
Bigfoot Silva, who lost to Werdum two years ago?
Frank Mir who’s biggest wins since 2009 are Nelson, Kongo, and Cro Co -. Not a single top 10 fighter – while getting beat by both top 10 fighters he faced.
Overeem might be number 3 by default.
That’s a great way of describing Overeem’s offensive style. Where is the fluidity? Where are the combinations?

Barnett is another bubble that’s gonna burst. Consider that for 5 years he hasnt fought a relevant HW. The last 2 ranked guys he fought – Nog and Crocop – he lost.
If Crocop and Nog fought his competition for the past 5 years they’d still be considered killers or “elite”. The bubble is gonna burst as soon as he fights his first relevant opponent.
Sergei Kharitonov sint relevant either… he was beaten by jeff monson 2 fights ago.
What did you think of the fluidity of movement he displayed last night? The quickness?
Perhaps Barnett’s slower schedule will actually benefit him going forward – as a guy in his 30’s, it might actually be a huge advantage to have a couple of years that weren’t a total grind on his body.

Warpath fought Brett Rogers to what looked like a draw so it’s hard to gauge how good barnett is or isnt against a guy like that.
His wear and tear is probably alot less because of the lack of grind but he’s also less sharp and it will be apparent once he fights a relevant HW. Iron against iron makes it stronger. Wood against wood dulls the edges.
Of course you’re talking about iron against wood. Unless you are suggesting Barnett was never any good. Sometimes Iron against iron just leaves you with two broken fighters….

Soooo….how offensive was Barnett’s post fight nonsense. Scale of 1 to 10?

Dana is crazy to shut out Paul. He should and will bring him back. I’m not a fan but I’ll watch Daley anytime. Hell of a fighter.

The way everyone is acting to Overeems performance is confusing.
If anyone was asked pre-fight what they thought his fight plan should be they all said: keep it standing and stay out of Werdum’s guard. Now that he did that everyone is upset.
Luke,
What do you think of the way that Werdum essentially uses the basketball/soccer flop to initiate the ground game? He constantly fell over when punches didn’t land to attempt to bring the fight to the ground.
In the eyes of the judges and viewers, flopping is horrible. You’ve just conceded position.

About Overeems striking and covering up? Why are people he surprised he covered up?
It’s nothing new. It’s his modus operandi. Even in K-1 what he does is block with his monster arms and inch forward till he backs his opponent up against the cage/wall and then unleash with murderous shots and knees. But every time he got into that position Werdum would flop.
I think an agressive opponent is a big plus to Overeem.

I think that Bigfoot's a bad matchup for Reem...
he can grind him on the fence, or duck under one of those looping punches for a double. If he sits at distance, it’ll be a short night, but I think that he just got a blueprint for how to beat Reem…. make him wrestle, and take chances once he gasses.

The fact that...
he wouldn’t commit to any strikes when the threat of the takedown was there. And that was against a dude who has NO shots from distance… he was hesitant and afraid to commit because he was afraid of getting taken down, plus, he ONLY throws looping power shots, no straights or jabs, and that’s exactly what landed Fedor on bottom in the 2nd round of the Bigfoot fight.
The other thing that concerned me was how gassed he was, merely from sprawling and standing up- there was no grinding- his difficulty in trnasitioning from wrestling to striking may prove difficult.
I’m a huge Reem fan, and I don’t think that last night is necessarily an indicator of future performance, but the things that we can take away from last night may not bode well against better wrestlers than Werdum. We’ll see and I hope I’m wrong…

reem has a pretty good base so I dont think Big foot has the wrestling necessary to take him down from the beggining. He’s gonna do like you said and grind him on the cage for a round or so and then get on top of him in the second… after that it will be over.
I think big foot should win the tournament.
Werdum was ranked #2 or #3 in the world.
If Overeem had gotten owned by Werdum then you could call him a fraud but he clearly didn’t. So to call him a fraud is ridiculous
I didn't
I called, quite clearly, Tim Marchman an idiot for doing so.

I don't get it? What evidence is there that Overeem is vulnerable to wrestlers?
When was that established?
We don't know
Since he hasn’t fought any with any decent ability. That’s the point.

Big foot is gonna wear him out and then ground and pound him. Overeem gassed in a fight that had very little activity, his chin cant take punishment, was outstruck by a bjj guy and looked like he forgot all his “supposed” new power back in his locker room in Japan.
Are you gonna..
put 18K on it?

I loathe pro-wrestling...
but I’m ashamed to say that I enjoyed Barnett’s little speech there last nigh. For one, it took the mic out of Gus Johnson’s hands, and I like it when dudes actually have to back up their words in, you know, real competition.

Cain
JDS
-big talent dropoff-
Overeem
Lesnar
Werdum
Big Foot
Carwin
Mir
Looking at this, it kinda makes me realize how completely decent most of these guys’ records are. Its easy to discredit them all. So what needs to happen is putting them all under one roof and then someone will rise to the top because all of the other fighters will be on his record. I’d rather just see an entire HW “Grand Prix”.
