The UFC announced this morning that an injury to Stephan Bonnar has forced him out of his UFC on Versus 5 bout with Karlos Vemola.
In Bonnar's place, the UFC has signed Brazilian submission specialist, Ronny Markes (11-1), to face Vemola in August. Markes ranked as the #10 light heavyweight on BloodyElbow.com's world scouting report. The Nova Uniao Kimura team member most recently won a decision against Paulo Filho in April.

Which conspiracy theory is more likely to be true?
1: Bonnar pulled out to cut weight and fight Koscheck at middleweight
2: Joe Silva read Leland’s Scouting Report.
I'd go for no. 2.

here are the facts
14 hours ago: UFC’s Twitter announces the injury
1 hour later: Josh Koscheck on Twitter “I have some big news on my next fight soon. I know the location & date. :) but waiting on who I’ll be fighting. Kos is back soon.:) boom son”
Right now: Stephan Bonnar’s twitter is still silent.
TAN TAN TANNNNNNNNNNNN. :P

To be fair...
If I was suppose to fight Karlos Vermola I would ‘get an injury’ too. The man is an animal when he smells blood and Bonnar drops alot of blood.

Tough fight for Markes,
but I actually think he might be able to replicate Madsen’s success and outgrapple him for a decision.

Markes is a powerhouse wrestler.
And I don’t think all that extra fat really helps Madsen much. He would have a way faster shot if he leaned out.

Markes looks like a solid fighter and trains at a good camp, but fighting Vemola in his first UFC fight is a tough task. Markes, according to the scouting report, uses his wrestling game in his fights, and he’ll need to take this fight to the ground and stay in top position to beat Vemola.

Vemola is an animal with two skills
gnp and then smash. anyone with any resilience and boxing or bjj ability will cream him. I fully expect Markes to avoid the initial flurry and dominate this match up.
I’ve never seen a fighter more hyped after beating can after can.

Lest we forget
Vemola gassing hard and getting smothered by Madsen as well.

he dropped a weight class after.
He knew he couldnyt fight people 40lbs and up higher than his own. That being said, Vemola is a wild brawler with heavy hands and good gnp, but any complete fighter would beat him right now at this time… Even Bonnar, but on the other hand I’m not too sure his new opponent wins.
