Travis Browne vs. Rob Broughton Confirmed for UFC 135 in Denver

The UFC has added a second heavyweight fight to the card for UFC 135 in Denver, scheduled for September 24th at the Pepsi Center. As announced by the promotion this afternoon, Hawaiian slugger, Travis Browne will meet Wolfslair Academy's Rob Broughton:
Another big-boy rumble in the Rockies has also been added to the event, with Travis "Hapa" Browne fighting Rob "The Bear" Broughton. "Undefeated heavyweight Browne has verbally agreed to face Broughton, who is on a five-fight win streak," said White. Browne is coming off a KO of the Night victory over Stefan Struve at UFC 130, while Broughton last competed at UFC 120.

Me neither. I feel like Struve-Browne was kinda-sorta like Siver-GSot in that GSot was supposed to run through Siver but didn’t. Struve was handed Browne but Browne delivered and now he’s getting a backwards-step in an opponent.
I don’t know if he was handed Browne. Browne drew Kongo, in a fight that I and many others thought he won. He’s a very legitimate prospect, probably more than Struve.

Who is he supposed to fight then?
Everyone is booked at HW. Also, you’re forgetting that Struve got blasted by anyone that wasn’t low level. So stop acting like Browne just beat a contender. I’d rather see Brown fight someone like this to make sure that he’s ready to step up instead of throwing him to the wolves.

it would be nice to see Browne face a smothering grappler like one of them, although from what little I’ve seen of Broughton, it seems like he possesses some skills in that area as well.

broughtons a no-name at hw and while this works as a fight to keep browne busy, i dont like fights simply to keep fighters busy

I don’t have a problem with this fight. I think that MMA fans at times are against lateral movement as far as next opponents go, but Browne is still a prospect who could use more cage time. It’s not just a matter of keeping Browne busy, but getting more experience especially since he’s still a prospect.

I had to look up Broughton
And I found that he’s had one UFC fight against another guy that I had to look up. I see he’s british though, can Browne wrestle?
Broughton is more of a top control grappler,
but Browne seems to have good grappling skills, and pretty crisp striking for a man his size.

They either Co-main Diaz vs GSP, but that card should sell well enough, so it will most likely be the main in UFC 138

Edgar vs Maynard 3 needs the spotlight GSP vs Diaz will bring
Especially if it’s as thrilling as their second fight. Otherwise UFC run the risk of not enough people seeing it like they did at the beginning of the year.

it’s been too long since his last fight.
Maybe even Carwin.
I think they’re done coddling Struve. He’s left his chin out there one too many times, and I don’t know if he’ll ever get it. Those kinds of habits are hard to kick. Stefan fights nothing like a tall man should. He needs to leave home for a while, go over to golden glory, bow down to the king of giant fighters, and pray to the gods of height that Semmy Schilt deigns him worthy of teaching the ancient secrets of the jab and the teep.

I agree. I think they’re done babying him. Perhaps Stipe Miocic’s first fight? I can see them giving him a power puncher again to see if he will finally learn to protect his chin better

I would guess they give Stipe an easier guy than Struve,
but on second thought, he could probably get to Stefan’s chin w/o much of a problem.

He’s young and does have natural gifts. I think he could really benefit from training in the US. In the meantime, give him any lower to mid-tier heavyweight coming off a loss.
Natural PHYSICAL gifts,
his only real mental gift is that he’s tough as shit. I’m all for bringing along prospects, but working with Schreiber obviously isn’t helping Struve learn to use his reach. Which does make sense, considering that Schreiber is a shorter dude himself, and Ghita doesn’t exactly fight like a giant either. He invites people into his range and tries to lure them into round kicking contests, but that’s not a style that will work for Struve in MMA.
Schilt’s style would though, lots of jabs & push kicks from the outside, and knees in the clinch. All the way in, or all the way out. Stefan allows his man to get in that inbetween zone WAYYYY too often.
