Scott Smith vs. Tarec Saffiedine Announced for July 30th Strikeforce Card
Another day, another potential welterweight war added to the Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson card. One day after the promotion added Paul Daley vs. Evangelista Santos to the July 30th event in Hoffman Estates, IL, they found a fight for the guy Santos was originally rumored to face, Tarec Saffiedine. And Saffiedine will be facing the Hands of Steel, Scott Smith. MMAWeekly covers it:
Former middleweight title contender turned welterweight Scott Smith will return to action to face Team Quest fighter Tarec Saffiedine on the night’s card.
Sources close to the match-up confirmed the bout to MMAWeekly.com on Monday.
Smith (17-8, 3-3 SF) will be fighting for the second time as a welterweight, and the first time he's fought since he was knocked out by Paul Daley last December. Saffiedine (10-3, 2-1 SF) is coming off a decision loss to Tyron Woodley at Strikeforce Challenger 13 in January.
Scott "Hands of Steel" Smith (17-8)
Loss Paul Daley - KO (Punch) SF: Henderson vs. Babalu 2
Loss Cung Le - KO (Body kick) SF: Fedor vs. Werdum
Win Cung Le - KO (Punches) SF: Evolution
Tarec Saffiedine (13-3)

Fun fight
Think Saffedine is too much for Scotty though.
Tatum: I think he's a good man. I like him. I got nothing against him, but I'm definitely gonna make orphans of his children.
Saffiedine all the way. Both in offense and defense in the standup, Saffiedine beats Smith. Smith simply hits harder, but I can’t see him catching Tarec as he has very good defense. Despite losing to Woodley, I think that Saffiedine is still a Welterweight prospect to look out for.

I love what I've seen from Saffedine
Woodley was a tough, tough matchup for him.

I’m really excited for this. Smith is my man, I’ll take him via TKO3 after taking a hellacious beating.

I don't know, man,
I think it’s yet to be seen whether Smith has 3 round cardio at 170.

That’s fair. I just usually expect people to have bad cardio their first cut down to a weight, so I think he’ll be much better this time.

Maybe,
I just don’t even know if 170 is really Smith’s optimal division. His physique looked alright, but he seemed pretty lethargic (part of that obviously has to do with Semtex being a much much better striker).
