Hey Liz, loved your fight against Marloes Coenen. Rarely does a short notice opponent do so well in a fight much less a title fight. So congrats either way on a great performance. Made me a fan instantly. What do you think of the Tate-Coenen fight? Do you think that Coenen will be able to block her takedowns? Takedown survived Fight Girl Monster’s ground game which is arguably as dangerous, and trains with Alpha Male which has churned out fighters like Joseph Benavidez and Urijah Faber who chew blackbelts up for lunch. Can Coenen submit her?

if he needed to become an exclusive UFC fighter (Diaz’s new contract), would he still agree to those terms to fight Edgar or let’s say the lightweight champion?

Carwin has a career to fall back on, but when he’s an old man he can say he hung in there with a stone cold killer. He’s a fighter. It’s that mentality that compels me to watch MMA. It’s fascinating.

Otherworldly toughness is definitely awesome,
and it’s definitely a requirement in order to be an elite fighter, but part of me always just wants a guy to quit. We won’t think less of you Fighter X, just save yourself a beating.

I agree. I also think the mentality of not quitting is what seperates the truly elite MMA combatants from the rest of the pack.

However,
I think quitting when it is necessary separates the champions from everyone else.
Fedor, GSP, & Anderson have all tapped when they were about to be horribly injured and couldn’t escape. And there’s no shame in that. Sometimes these things happen in MMA.

Eye test
What the doc was doing was a confrontation test to check the different visual fields. There is a way to do this such that the patient can’t lie. That is to move ones fingers or hold them still and ask him if they’re moving or not moving. That way a simple yes doesn’t suffice.
That said, in any situation between a doctor and a patient, there is very little a doctor can do if the patient cares so little about his own health that he lies. Add to that the pressure of being in the middle of the octagon in a big ass stadium and trying not to let down the fans. He’s just trying to get out of the way as fast as possible.
