What have these two done recently?
How did these two get here?
Dustin "The Diamond" Poirier, a Tim Credeur-trained fighter out of Louisiana, won seven straight regional lightweight bouts before getting his shot in the WEC. He dropped a decision to Danny Castillo in his first fight at WEC 50, but rebounded with a 53 second TKO stoppage of Zach Micklewright at WEC 52. That was enough to earn passage to the UFC after the merger. Well, that and deciding to drop to featherweight. He made his UFC and featherweight debut in style by defeating highly-touted prospect Josh Grispi by dominating decision. He was originally scheduled to face Rani Yahya on this card, but Rani withdrew due an injury and Young took his place.
Jason "Shotgun" Young is making his UFC debut here on short notice. Young is on a two-fight winning streak, with his most recent win coming on Ontario's first sanctioned MMA card in April, a decision over Jorge Britto. He is also a former Cage Rage British lightweight champion.
Why should you care?
It's a featherweight fight, and they're almost always great. Enough said.
