This is a bit of a follow up on an older piece I did in an attempt to show the pay structure in boxing vs. MMA and clear up some misconceptions some fans had about the pay distribution. Dan Rafael of ESPN.com tweeted the purse info for Saturday's main event and undercard bouts for the Manny Pacquiao vs. Shane Mosley event. Here's the info:
Purses for Saturday's undercard: Pavlik $270K, Lopez $40K, Vazquez $165K, Arce $125K, Alvarado $50K, Narh $22,500.
Mosley's official purse on the Nevada contract is $3.950 million, although he is guaranteed $5 million
Pacquiao's official purse is $6 million on the Nevada contract but he is guaranteed $20 million from by Top Rank because of PPV.
There's not a lot to say here and I don't post this for any other reason but as a continuation of the earlier discussion where I attempted to show that the idea that only the main event fighters on these major cards are taking home substantial pay is generally untrue.
