At UFC 130, there were definitely some fighters who came out and impressed me and a lot of the fans watching tonight. From the devastating knockouts to even the decision wins for some fights, it was an entertaining night of fights. Don't let the last taste get to you of fans booing during the Rampage vs. Hamill fight get to you because I honestly don't understand that. Anyways, I'll leave it at that -- here are the fighters who impressed me tonight.
Travis Browne - KO over Stefan Struve: If anyone wanted to impress at UFC 130, it was Browne. After his fight with Cheick Kongo, he really wanted to rebound from that dud and boy did he ever. This was a battle of the big boys and Browne really took it too him. Coming from the same camp as Dominick Cruz, it seems like he was able to draw some of the Champions footwork into his game. He looked light on his feet and landed that Superman punch right on Struve's face.
Brian Stann - TKO over Jorge Santiago: Stann continues to do what he does, win. After moving to the Middleweight Division, he has looked better and better. There seemed to be a huge difference between Stann and Santiago during the fight and I think it's just the difference between the new guard of fighters vs. the old guard. Clearly, Stann has put together a game that has rocketed him to be one of the best Middleweights in the UFC and his finish definitely helped that stance.
Demetrious Johnson - Unanimous Decision over Miguel Torres: Mighty Mouse took this fight on late notice. Let's just put that in perspective. Going against a former WEC Champion isn't an easy challenge and being able to win the fight by dictating the action is another thing. I'll have to admit, his game plan was perfect against Torres. To be able to take him down at will while being active on top while the crafty Torres kept on attacking on his back -- that's hard to do.
Rampage Jackson - Unanimous Decision over Matt Hamill: Who thought Rampage was going to stuff every take down and nullify anything that Hamill was going to do? I know there were a ton of people out there thinking that Hamill was going to be able to take Rampage down and reign down the hammers, but not I. People fail to forget that Rampage is a wrestler himself and is able to do some reverse wrestling to keep the fight standing. On top of that, he was able to lay on some damage with an injured hand. Can't wait to see who he fights next.
