UFC 131 Fight Card: Junior dos Santos vs. Shane Carwin

After a slow couple of weeks, the UFC's summer schedule, which kicked off yesterday with UFC 130, is packed with no fewer than eight events (in addition to four Strikeforce events) between now and the end of August.  The next pay-per-view event takes place in two weeks from Vancouver, with a headlining bout between heavyweight sluggers, Shane Carwin and Junior dos Santos.  Although the card has undergone some changes due to injuries suffered by fighters over the last month, the lineup should still deliver some tremendous action.

June 11th, live on Pay-per-view from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada:
Main card:
Shane Carwin vs. Junior dos Santos

Dave Herman vs. Jon Olav Einemo

Donald Cerrone vs. Vagner Rocha

I know the usual brigade of “This card is awesome! Alot of crossroads fighters trying to advance blah blah etc etc” apologists will be crawling out of the woodwork on this one, but……..man, that card looks AWFUL. I dont see that being all that much more relevant then the card we just had. Yes, JDS and Carwin will be a firefight I’m sure, but the rest of that undercard, good god almighty.

I’m just supremely pissed off that they couldn’t give Cerrone a better name fight coming off a three fight win streak. The Dave Herman/ Einemo fight is going to open some eyes, and Maia/ Munoz is almost certainly going to be a highlight reel submission for Maia. And although it’s listed as the fifth fight down, the Florian/ Nunes fight is either going to cement Nunes as the next big thing at FW, or be Kenny’s coming out party after dropping down yet again.

But has Maia fought anyone with Munoz wrestling ability? If Mark can keep the fight standing, i think he has a hell of a chance. Look forward to seeing Pee Wee get his shot at the big show, he looks the part to me.

Maia threw Sonnen through the air by his head. It was both impressive and hilarious.

Yeah,

The irony was palpable when Demian Maia, BJJ blackbelt flipped the lifelong, olympic alternate wrestler through the air.

PS- if anyone tells me I don’t know how to properly definte irony, I will impale them with the spear of destiny and light them on fire.

I agree on your Cerrone point....

I feel like they’re protecting him- he’s getting Bisping treatment.

Main card doesn't look half bad to me.

Prelims look like dogshit though.

This.

I largely only know one fighter in each fight. Injuries have murdered the UFC this quarter.

I absolutely LOVE the JDS – Carwin fight, as well as Munoz – Maia, very much looking forward to both of those fights. The main event is one I’ve been wanting to see for quite some time and I’m very excited to see that one. I also love the style clash of wrestler with KO power and wicked GnP in Munoz, and BJJ wizard Maia, should be a lot of fun. But the rest of the card doesn’t really do anything for me, could live without it. I’ll still watch all the fights though.

does anyone know much about jason young?? this card is entertaining i suppose…

Fairly young, British fighter who has some decent hands but not much power, and has a weakness for submissions.
