Jorge-santiago-210x300

Sergio Hernandez has a nice piece on MMA Mania detailing Jorge Santiago's amazing run outside the UFC from 2006 to 2010. If you're wondering who Santiago is and why he's coming back into the UFC on the main card, your questions will be answered.

I like and have ranked Santiago in top ten lists various times for years now BUT :

He has a vulnerable chin which again failed him outside the UFC, and hasn’t faced the level of opposition a middle of the pack MW would face in the UFC. His best win is Misaki. I’ve seen this movie enough times to know that typically an excommunicated UFC fighter who shoots up the rankings via Japanese domination and achieves top ten status through obligatory votes for the best non-UFC fighter will probably struggle on his return to the promotion.

He has beaten some good fighters in Clark, Horn, Misaki, Prangley etc, but Michael Bisping’s resume to me is more impressive and he is barely in the top ten at all.

Could Santiago come in and wreck shop in the UFC? Sure, and I hope so, but I have my reservations. Especially once he faces some of the stronger punchers in the promotion.
