In my eyes, this is a no brainer for the UFC. Promote it as the Iceman's last fight in the UFC. A living legend, going out on his terms. No handouts either for a guaranteed win. Make the opponent deserving of Chuck as one of the greatest former champions of all time. Maybe a rematch with Rashad Evans. Part 2. Snicker all you want, but crazier things have happened in sports before. And just imagine if Chuck was able to get his timing back for one night and actually knocked out Rashad. The roofs of a thousand Buffalo Wild Wings would collapse instantly.
Again, please spare me this passive aggressive concern for Chuck crap. This is not your Uncle Jimmy trying out for the local bowling league. Chuck has seen more destruction in one night, than most of us will see in our lifetime.
Besides, he's not saying I want to fight for another 5 years then retire. All he wants is one more chance to do what he has always done: test himself.
The last few tests have not gone well, I admit. Chuck lost by knockout, to Rich Franklin, Rampage, Rashad Evans and Mauricio Rua. Rampage and Rua are Chuck's equals. Rashad is himself an ex champion. Rich Franklin is tough fight for almost anyone except Anderson Silva. Hardly a scrub loss in the bunch,
Chuck's had just one win amidst those losses. And guess who he beat by unanimous decision? Wanderlei Silva!
So if Chuck is so washed up that we should not allow him to fight, then what does that say about Wanderlei Silva?
I charge that this all is part of a massive conspiracy by Dana White. Snicker if you must, but word on the street is that this is Dana White's backhanded way of finally acting out his fantasy of going against Chuck and coming out victorious. Sort of, "yeah, we're cool and everything, but hey, it's my company. I run the show, and if I say I don't want you fighting no more, then guess what? You ain't fucking fighting no more!"
Unpleasant to somemas that may be, such is the current state of affairs in the UFC. Where enormous power is concentrated in the hands of a single individual. As they say power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts, absolutely.
Such power trips might actually have their time and place. Perhaps to a flashy but troubleprone newcomer.
But not to an undisputed legend who has paid for that respect literally in blood.
Chuck has earned the right to fight again if he chooses, and the only people he should have to answer to, would be his wife, his camp, his mother and right fist and left fist.
And his chin.
CHUCK WILL FIGHT AGAIN!
