Based on the premise that all MMA rankings are subjective but that it’s still useful and informative to know who the online MMA community as a whole ranks as the best fighters in MMA, we collect and average the rankings of the top MMA websites to produce our consensus rankings. We compile the top MMA rankings from each of our sources and award 25 points for a first place ranking, 16 for a 10th place ranking, 1 for a 25th place ranking. A formula is used to "normalize" the data so all fighters are awarded points from those lists that do not include a full 25 fighters. This formula ensures that each ranking site awards the same number of total points regardless of how many fighters they choose to rank. Each fighter’s total is divided by the number of possible points to determine their standing in the Consensus Rankings.

losing Sonnen for ????
really sucks since he was on the verge of single-handedly revitalizing the division.
Follow me on Twitter @KidNate
His Sengoku and Strikeforce title runs is my guess
but what I really want to know is how is Bisping ranked higher than a Wandy who in his last fight slapped Bisping silly

The same Wandy
Who hasn’t fought since that fight? While Bisping has rattled off three straight victories? Can’t bury Bisping forever because of that loss. If Wand had been more active in the interim there’d be more of a debate but really, that fight was in February of 2010, let’s move on.

I would be inclined to agree with you if
Bisping had beaten anyone ranked ahead of wandy.

WOW!
Sonnen, not even 3 months more inactive than Okami and he already dropped below him. This is why I cant take your guys’ shit seriously.

That is a terrible argument. If you are dropping him because of an indefinite suspension, drop him completely. Why does his suspension only warrant a drop of one spot? Oh, yes, to hype up Okami before the Silva fight. Way to not be in the UFC’s pocket.

This is why Okami has moved up

Ultimately, Okami won his last fight and Sonnen lost his, with no prospect of avenging that loss anytime soon.

Sonnen beat Okami AND Marquardt and lost to the #1. All that proves is that he is not #1. You have an absolutely twisted view on rankings if you think that all that matters is whether someone won or lost, not who their opponent was.
by JudokaLinker on May 26, 2011 2:21 PM EDT up reply actions
Got to agree.
On a three fight win streak and just beat Nate, cant argue that he is number 2 right now. Chael being at three isnt surprising at all.

Got to disagree.
Okami lost to Sonnen, do you guys keep forgetting this? Losing to the #1 ranked guy in the division should have NO bearing whatsoever on who is #2 in a division. I dont understand you people.

He lost
many fights ago, meanwhile he keeps winning and Sonnen hasn’t won a fight since then. It’s pretty simple stuff, really.

He lost to the best ranked person in the division.
He has only been out of the game 3 months longer than Okami. Until Okami beats Silva or Maia, you cannot make an argument for him being higher than Chael.

He proceeded to beat not only Dan Miller, but Yushin Okami (who was highly ranked) and Marqaurdt, who was ranked higher than Maia after beating Maia. Maia/Sonnen/Marqaurdt is one of those rock paper scissors groups that pops up every once and awhile. Those are difficult to deal with, and I tend to give a bit of slack to those ranking that, but my issue is that he is dropped one spot for no real reason whatsoever.

all together for being on suspension.

Then they should do so, as opposed to Subo’s ludicrous idea that he should be dropped one spot because of it (clearly to allow Okami to be hyped as #2).

Since Chael has been out.
Okami has beat Munoz and Nate, Chael has been out for close to a year now.

So Sonnen beats Okami AND the best guy that Okami has beaten…ever (some may argue tanner, but whatever), but Sonnen is dropped down because he loses to the best guy in the division?
Munoz is a decent win, but Linnhares… he isnt even worth counting. Number of wins or losses should not matter, it is the quality of opponents.

Sonnen beat Nate. Okami beating Nate would only put Okami on the same level as Sonnen…if Sonnen hadnt already beaten Okami.
Chael lost to the #1 ranked fighter, as a #2 ranked fighter. All this means is that he is still the #2 ranked fighter.
Your argument is worthless. Mckee had huge win streak and BJ had just lost to frankie twice, does that mean mckee should be ranked higher?

Okami has 2 wins in almost the same time frame that Sonnen has a lost, it doesn’t matter if it was to Anderson Silva or Vitor Belfort.

Strongly disagree – it makes all the difference who it was to. If Jake goes on to beat say Fitch, Kos and Alves, then loses again to GSP, is there any way he is anything other than #2?

This seriously makes no sense
Cheal has 1 loss in the last year. Okami has 2 mins in pretty much the same time frame. That’s what matters. Otherwise the #2 guy would just perennially be ranked #2 and that’s not how it works.
If Chael gets a couple of good wins he’ll be right back at #2 if he really belongs there.

You are just arguing semantics at this point. He was suspended because he failed to report them, not because he is not allowed to. You can’t just report anabolic steroids without and expect to be allowed to use them.

I'll give it a go.
He also tested in the normal range for all but 1 fight in those three years. Wait what? He said he’s taken T for 3 years…he also said he had a conversation with Kizer that did not happen; he said Lance Armstrong gave himself cancer, and countless other lies and truth bending statements. Did you ever think that he said he’s been on TRT for 3 years just to make his case seem more solid? If everything the man says is a lie, then why believe that? He was tested between those three years and passed every test.
If you can't wow them with brilliance, then baffle them with bullshit.

Sonnens wins have been tainted. He himself says that without steroids he would have the testosterone levels of a 93 year old man, sounds like to me that a 93 year old man probably wouldn’t be in the top 10.
Personally I’ve dropped Sonnen out of the top 10 altogether, steroids tarnish your victories and unless he can get approval for his steroids I would has to see it to believe it regarding a 93 year old man being that good…
Silva/ Okami / Maia are the top 3 . MWs top 10 is crazy you can’t even do a proper one with all the issues there…

I actually agree. No other sport allows this treatment, if Randy , Dan , and Chael are too damn old to produce their own damn testosterone , that’s what happens what you get old bub. The TRT stuff is a travesty.

Gotcha. I’m saying , I love that we can keep our fighters longer and longer as a fan, but as a human being, it can’t be good for the fighter and in all fairness, no one should be able to take any steroids unless used for a life and death situation. And if said fighter was that sick, we wouldn’t have to worry about him in the cage anyhow. Just say NO to TRT!

Check out Matt Mitrione’s take on it when he was last on Helwani’s show. It sounds like other sports, or least the NFL, turn a blind eye to this sort of thing as well. Mitrione makes a distinction between Testosterone and other PEDs.
It’s all bullshit. Hell even supplements should probably looked at more, it’s an unregulated market , and you shouldn’t be taking things like creative and stuff.
If you can’t Compete from a natural diet, then you can’t compete, period. At least in my book, hell just eat a lot of chicken , your already indirectly gettin steroids as well as with damn near all animal products and even plants we have GMOs. On second thought, we are all on steroids fuck it lol.
