Leonard Garcia vs. Alex Caceres Added to UFC on Versus 5

Photo

The card for UFC on Versus 5, which comes to the Bradley Center in Milwaukee on August 14th, is rapidly filling up, and the UFC announced another addition this morning, with Alex Caceres set to take on Leonard Garcia in featherweight action:

The Ultimate Fighter 12's Alex "Bruce Leroy" Caceres will look for his first UFC win on August 14th in Milwaukee, when he faces veteran action hero Leonard "Bad Boy" Garcia in a bout verbally agreed to late Tuesday night.

Both men are likely in desperate need of a win here, as despite his aggressiveness and controversial split decision victories, Garcia has shown little to suggest he can hang with any of the UFC's most talented featherweights, while many argued that Caceres didn't even deserve a UFC roster spot to begin with.  These factors should combine to provide some fireworks on August 14th.

Leonard "Bad Boy" Garcia (23-7-1)
Loss Chan Sung Jung (submission - twister) - UFN 24
Win Nam Phan (split decision) - TUF 12 Finale
Loss Mark Hominick (splt decision) - WEC 51
Alex "Bruce Leroy" Caceres (7-3)
Loss Mackens Semerzier (submission - rear naked choke) - UFN 24
Win Jahmal McLennan (TKO) - G Force Fights: Bad Blood 3
Loss Matt McCook (submission - armbar) - WFC: Battle of the Bay 8

hmm, how about this one: Alex triangles Garcia, which is cut as a result, then Alex tests positive for pot, and is cut too.

by Shnak on May 25, 2011 11:42 AM EDT up reply actions

Honestly

Anything other than a finish should send both these guys packing. I’m going to lose it if I see another Garcia split decision victory (i.e., unanimous decision loss that inexplicably does not end up in the right column).

This comment is intended for entertainment purposes only. Any resemblence to the actual truth is entirely coincidental.

It’s gonna be Garcia’s first legitimate win in awhile. Then I will do ninja-like backflips.

Novelty act vs. Hypnotoad.

Garcia takes it, Caceres gets cut. Alex should go to Japan after, he could make a career being a low-rent Tony Valente for the minor JMMA orgs.

No way that Garcia doesn't crush him.

and if not, I’m sorry but he should be cut for the loss.

It’s the Bruce Lee imitation. Dana is such a huge Bruce Lee fan.

If was a Bruce Lee fan I’d get mad at such a lame imitation

Actually not, though I must respect him as a martial artist

He wants Garcia to win a split decision against him so everyone rallies in support of Bruce Leroy and he doesn’t have to cut him.

Leonard Garcia is actually going to win a fight fairly here probably.

Because Nam deserves to get that one back

the judges raped him hard.

Everyone except for the judges knew he won that fight. Given that he’s fighting MTB next, it looks like the UFC is treating it as a win.

Nam asked for the rematch.

i say give it to him.

by Shnak on May 25, 2011 12:51 PM EDT up reply actions

I really don’t think Leonard Garcia is a UFC-caliber fighter, but Caceres is a novelty act. Garcia by decision.

by Tedd Welch on May 25, 2011 12:48 PM EDT reply actions

that’s true, his style is not judge-friendly.
Either he finishes Caceres or he will get screwed by the judges.

by mmablitzkrieg on May 25, 2011 1:25 PM EDT up reply actions

I was going to say (T)KO, but I don’t feel comfortable calling Garcia’s first finish in 3 years. The constant talk of his largely theoretical KO power is one of the strangest phenomena around him.

by Tedd Welch on May 25, 2011 1:34 PM EDT up reply actions

You kiddin’ me, Garcia is a wrecking machine with a punching power similar to Tyson, he just can get no love from the judges.

by mmablitzkrieg on May 25, 2011 2:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Sarcasm?

’cause Michael Bisping has a better (T)KO rate than he does.

Yes

thought it was pretty clear.

by mmablitzkrieg on May 26, 2011 1:04 PM EDT up reply actions

holy crap wow

he just can get no love from the judges.

So that’s pretty abundantly clear. Sorry, dude, I shouldn’t comment before I’ve had coffee.

by Tedd Welch on May 26, 2011 1:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Lotta hate for Garcia

I don’t get it. Is he a judge? Did he pay them off? If those decisions had gone the other way, he’d be the lovable loser who just comes to scrap.

The same folks who were “OMGFOTYWTFBBQ” over his fight with Zombie now are raining shit on him.

He wouldn’t be the lovable loser who just comes to scrap, because he would have been cut a long time ago. I don’t have any personal beef with Leonard, I just have no desire to see him fight.

by MS_Dos_Santos on May 25, 2011 2:21 PM EDT up reply actions

if he comes out like a man

and admits his loss like hamill and penn did, i wouldn’t hate the guy.

I don't hate Garcia

that would silly. I will however, make fun of the ridiculous decisions he’s been gifted lately. You are absolutely correct that it’s not his fault and a symptom of the poor judging in MMA.
By the way, you only get to be the lovable loser who comes to scrap if you have something else going for you, like maybe you participated in the fight that made the UFC or you have a hardcore (Pride) fanbase who still want to watch you fight.

by malkav on May 25, 2011 3:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Should be an easy win for Garcia.

Caceras is feeble enough on his feet that I actually expect Garcia to get the KO, which would of course lead to Joe Rogan talking more about how much power he has, which he doesn’t.

I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.

by Llewdor on May 25, 2011 1:37 PM EDT reply actions

Both guy should had been cut before the fight

I don’t want to see Leonard rob another UFC fighter again. Alex isn’t even close to Strikeforce lvl. Garcia gets another chance to stick around and continue to rob people
