Mike Pyle vs. Rory MacDonald Slated for UFC 133 in Philadelphia
The UFC has added another interesting bout the UFC 133 card, scheduled to take place on August 6th in Philadelphia, with the announcement of a welterweight match-up pitting wily veteran, Mike Pyle, against uber-prospect, Rory MacDonald:
UFC President Dana White announced today that the City of Brotherly Love will get another dose of high-impact welterweight action on August 6th with a veteran vs. prospect meeting.
"Welterweight standouts Mike ‘Quicksand’ Pyle and Rory ‘The Water Boy’ MacDonald have verbally agreed to fight at UFC 133 in Philadelphia," said White.
This isn't the first time that Pyle has been pitted against a highly-touted blue chip, as when he fought John Hathaway last October, Pyle was expected to wilt against the unrelenting pace of the young Brit. Pyle had other plans though and he rag-dolled Hathaway for three rounds to take an impressive unanimous decision. A decision victory over a very skilled grappler in Ricardo Almeida in March at UFC 128 brought Pyle's current winning streak to three.
Macdonald, on the other hand, recently found redemption in a three round beat down of the talented Nate Diaz at UFC 129. A promising young Canadian with excellent skills in all areas of MMA, Macdonald seemed destined for greatness after making quick work of Mike Guymon in his UFC debut, but after fading and succumbing to a late TKO against Carlos Condit last summer, Macdonald had to regroup and returned to make an impressive statement against Diaz.
The current UFC 133 card now includes:
-Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis
-Rich Franklin vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
-Vitor Belfort vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama
-Johny Hendricks vs. Mike Pierce
-Mike Pyle vs. Rory Macdonald
-Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Alexander Gustafsson
-Jorge Rivera vs. Alessio Sakara
-Ivan Menjivar vs. Nick Pace
-Mike Brown vs. Nam Phan
-Brian Ebersole vs. Dennis Hallman
-Riki Fukuda vs. Rafael Natal

They are two different fighters though. I feel that Rory just has such a more well-rounded skillset than Hathaway. For example, Hathaway looked robotic in his striking against Pyle, but Rory has many tools in the standup department. While Pyle has in the past derailed the hype out of a young prospect, I just don’t think he’ll do that to all prospects, and especially to Rory.

This should be a great fight
With high stakes for both, as the loser will have a long road back to their current standing.

This going to be some good stuff.
I can’t remember the last time I yelled so hard at the TV during the fight then I did when Rory shat on Nate Diaz.
Assuming that's the final card

-Mike Pyle vs. Rory Macdonald
-Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Alexander Gustafsson

not sure if I want ot buy this one...
would look nice with Aldo at the top…
pretty damn sick card
perhaps no “oh dear god i’m so excited”-fight, but there are some real interesting fights.
to be perfectly frank, apart from the main event i’d say Mike Pyle vs. Rory Macdonald and Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Alexander Gustafsson intrigue me the most. Primarily because the winner of respective bout will catapult either guy.
I think "Ragdolled" would be
more app to describe the Nate Diaz Rory Macdonald fight
thought, I must say...
hendricks vs pierce gets main card treatment instead of gustafsson vs teh janitor? big meh
Though, I can see a logic in the decision, teh vlad vs teh alex will indeed make people turn on spike, and very likely entice some ppv buys as a result of alex’ KTFO treatment of teh vlad.
Great fight
And a solid-looking card overall, provided we get too see all of the prelims on FB due to not knowing who the UFC is gonna put on the PPV and on Spike.
