UFC 129 Results: Sickness Slowed Jose Aldo During His Bout Against Mark Hominick
Jose Aldo dominated the first round of his UFC 129 bout against Mark Hominick. Shortly after the second round started though, the champion seemed visibly tired. Commentator Joe Rogan speculated that it could be a result of a bad weight cut, bringing up that Aldo was light headed and had to excuse himself during the Q&A portion that featured the 7 UFC champs. It seems that wasn't the case though.
BE Reader fafefifofo, brought up that right before Rogan interviewed Aldo, he complained to his corner that he should have taken antibiotics. Bloody Elbow's Tom Mendes of Brazil was able to confirm this. Here's a translation of the cornerman's reply to Jose Aldo:
"Antibiotics would not have helped at all, you’re the champion kid, fuck antibiotics, everything is okay. You fought well, smooth and composed. "
Aldo made no mention of this on the post-fight interview with Joe Rogan. This of course could be because he didn't take anything away from the very game Mark Hominick who took the fight to him, and showed a tremendous amount of heart and determination.

So thats why
It was very obvious something was wrong, that didn’t look like aldo at all he looked completely gassed and sluggish.
Saying antibiotics wouldn't help
is fucking stupid.
Anyway, Aldo is a beast.
If they said this to him in the corner it was obviously just to get him mentally into the game. Telling him “yes you are right you did need antibiotics” would have given him a mental excuse to go on and lose the fight
by The Big Thing on May 2, 2011 12:22 AM EDT up reply actions
Seems like they said it after the fight.
But your point stands, they were trying to instil confidence in Aldo.

I read that they said this after the fight
when they were putting his shirt on.
Not sure what that means
How come someone wouldn’t want to use antibiotics if they have a virus?
Antibiotics dont work on viruses.
by sadface on May 2, 2011 2:40 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions 3 recs
Viruses do not qualify as a form of life (don’t have all the characteristic of a living organism), hence the antibiotics don’t work.

Bacteria
are small single-celled organisms that can be pathogenic. Black Plague was caused by a microbe (bacterium) called Yersina pestis.
Staphylococcus aureus is what causes “Staph infections” (queue Randalman pics), and has developed drug resistant versions (MRSA)
Micobacterium Tuberculosis is one that causes “TB”, very hard to kill because it actually lives and multiplies INSIDE your white blood cells
But you have tons of helpful bacteria also, your skin, mouth, and especially gut are FILLED with them, in fact if you totaled up every single human cell that makes up a human body, and every single bacterial cell in that same body, there are something like 1000 times more bacterial cells than human (I forget actual figure).
Antibiotics often attack the microbial processes that are unique to bacteria, for example blocking their ability to transport large cell wall constructs (Human cells don’t have cell walls).
Viruses are completely different, and cause other types of infections. Common Cold, “The Flu”, HIV, HPV, RSV, Ebola/Hanta (Hemorhagic Fevers). Antibiotics will have no effect whatsoever on these viruses because they use different cellular processes to multiply and do damage, and generally do their work from inside of your own human cells, sometimes hijacking your cell’s machinery to build their armies of virions.

I wish more people knew this
I thought it was common knowledge that antibiotics don’t work on viruses. Not a slight against anyone – it’s a general failure of our education system in North America.
For those who don’t know, over-use of antibiotics is one of the reasons resistant strains develop, and those are bad news for everyone.

I don’t know man. It seems like a neat idea, but for most people I don’t think that’s how it works. Unless you’re reminded of factual stuff like this every now and then, or actually use it at all, it can get pretty easy for the details to get muddy over time. I just read that whole post and understand it, but if you ask me tomorrow I’d have already forgotten most of it. But I guess you could argue that simply reading something doesn’t suffice to learn it. And I also think my memory was a lot better as a youngster, I think I’ve definitely lost a step there.

Even if it was bacterial
Antibiotics can make you feel weak and tired.
Probably wouldn’t have been the best thing to take before a fight.
"Run and tweet THAT, homeboy."
Yeah,
Adverse effects range from fever and nausea to major allergic reactions including photodermatitis and anaphylaxis. Common side-effects include diarrhea, resulting from disruption of the species composition in the intestinal flora, resulting, for example, in overgrowth of pathogenic bacteria, such as Clostridium difficile…
Additional side-effects can result from interaction with other drugs, such as elevated risk of tendon damage from administration of a quinolone antibiotic with a systemic corticosteroid.

145 is still settling.
It’s like LW once the UFC reopened it. There are so many fighters who can do well at FW but don’t fight in the UFC, plus guys who can drop down and give them fits. I suspect that Edgar would give Aldo one helluva fight, as would many of the smaller LWs. Too many FW are unknown quantities to call Aldo P4P yet.

The only thing Kenny is gonna lose to at 145 is the weight cut and Chad Mendes.

Do you think Kenny is the better striker?
Because I definitely don’t think he has the wrestling chops to get Aldo down or keep him there consistently.
And I think Jose is a more athletic, versatile, dangerous striker than Kenny. I would give Florian the advantage in boxing, which is an area Hominick was able to take advantage of, and something Aldo needs to work on.

Kenny's jab is sharp, and his control of range is excellent.
Better footwork too, and very sharp head movement. Not to mention he surges in fights while Aldo fades when he doesn’t finish. I said here before this fight that Aldo is a 20 minute fighter. Kenny would have finished him in the 5th with ease.

I think Aldo had alot going against him.
Coming off of the injury layoff, being sick, UFC debut, and never having faced a striker like Hominick.
I definitely give Kenny a shot, but I don’t think Kenny is all that tough. He wanted no part of BJ’s power, and clinched for dear life once he felt it. I think Aldo has just as much power as BJ, and a more varied striking repertoire.
Kenny definitely has better endurance (he’s more built for marathons, whereas Aldo is definitely more built for sprints), but I think a healthy Aldo wouldn’t have been anywhere near as gassed at the end. He was fine in the 5’th round against Faber.
All I know is that I really want to see that fight. Nunes is no pushover though, it will be interesting to see how that fight plays out.

Oh, for sure.
I think there’s alot to say about a fight that’s going your way, versus a fight with adversity. I just think that Aldo was giving Hominick the business in the 1’st round, and being sick, coming off the injury/ layoff, and facing a completely different type of fighter than he ever has in his UFC debut was alot to contend with, and explains why he faded by the 2’nd round.
And I think Aldo showed real toughness, something I haven’t been particularly impressed with in Kenny.

He looked terrible against Maynard
if I remember correctly, Maynard actually out struck Florian.
If he comes fighting like that then Florian would be fucked.
Sure but it was Maynard’s wrestling that really jacked up Florian’s game. He had to keep distance and watch for too much. I think he’d lose, but I also think he could handle Jose in the clinch and on the mat. He’d really have to fight his best fight, and unfortunately, Kenny hasn’t been able to pull that off in the big ones.

I remember that it was pretty even in the title shot fight against Din until he blew his knee out. Looked terrible in every title fight he’s had and the Maynard one as well.
Alot of things were going against Aldo,
and he still managed to do well and pull out the win. That left body hook + right low kick combo he kept landing in the first round is just brutal, and one of the coolest things i’ve ever seen in MMA.
Hominick is a tough bastard and has some serious punching ability, and although his takedown defense is still exploitable, his grappling on the whole has improved so so much. I would definitely be down for a rematch down the line.

Besides that, Bin Laden was ill and had been ill for a long time, there was plenty of speculation that he was probably already dead from illness. My bet is they don’t skip a beat.

I really hate the excuses that are coming from this card
Aldo and GSP are human. They arent unbeatable. We don’t need a reason why they aren’t holding the scalps of their opponents after every fight.
I guess thats one way to look at it.
I kinda like the fact that I know the reason why Jose gassed after one round.

It's just sickening
how many guys fight with a virus and don’t say a thing? Aldo your great man but Hominick was a game opponent
Aldo didn't say anything to the press.
He just made a comment in Portugese to his trainer, that happened to be caught by the camera, which happened to be translated by a Brazilian.

Nah I'm not really attacking Aldo
Just the people who are going to use that as an excuse for Aldo not looking like a world beater. Fact is he showed nothing off his back and when up against a guy who is an upper tier striker he showed holes.
Aldo quit in the 5th.
I don’t know how his bottom game BJJ is because he didn’t even pretend to be interested in fighting back. Even Penn moved more in round 3 against Fitch.

That was a 10-8 round imo
I was scared Hominick would finish him. At one point I thought Aldo would basically clean out 145 and move on 155 and do the same but I think guys like Edgar, Alvarez, Gil and Gray would probably handle him.
It seems you are attacking Aldo.
You wrote, “How many guys fight with a virus and don’t say a thing.” Fact is Aldo was mercin’ people, looked great first round against Hominick and looked drained in the fifth.
by sadface on May 2, 2011 2:54 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions
Same here.
I also think coming off the back injury, long layoff, the liver shot Hominick ripped Jose with, and otherwise giving Mark a serious beating in that first round all contributed to him being more tired in the 2’nd round.
Being sick would also contribute to things, and I believe Aldo here. He showed real heart in soldiering on despite looking very tired by the 2’nd round.

I know I definitely wouldn’t want to repeatedly take a shovel hook and low kick from Aldo. Just shows how tough Hominick is, he took those leg kicks like a champ. I knew Jose would be able to land them, but I hadn’t banked on mark being able to take kicks like that.

Mark gave as good as he got in the 2’nd round, and then came back and won the 5’th round handily. I’m on the fence as to whether or not it was a 10-8, but Aldo would’ve won anyways. A few good rebound wins for Hom and I would love to see a rematch.

My personal standard for a 10-8 is just a round that clearly distinguishes itself in dominance from the 10-9 rounds preceding it, so it could qualify. At least, despite my feeling that Jose is telling the truth, and sick, this breaks down the invincibility argument for people, and perhaps allows more guys to appear as viable challengers.

I think so too.
I think that probably qualifies as a 10-8 round, and a frame like the first round Maynard/ Edgar 2, or Lesnar/ Carwin round 1, would be a 10-7.
Hominick was absolutely right, though- Jose hadn’t fought a striker of his caliber yet. Aldo definitely outstruck Mark when he was fresh, but showed some real holes in his punching technique. Aldo needs to work with a boxing coach specifically, especially to work on that cross of his. He needs to pivot on his foot and bend his knees more on that right hand.

3. You just made me say, one pump chump. I am sorry.

How many times have we seen Aldo fight off his back before?
It wasn't
that Aldo was on his back. It was that he was exhausted. He noticeably slowed down after the 1’st round, despite looking like a beast in that first frame. Aldo has kept his wind far longer than just the 1’st round before, the dude was sick and coming off a long injury layoff, making his UFC debut in a packed house of 55,000 people, thousands of miles away from home.

Dude was a jiu jitsu champ
You can clearly see he knew what he was doing on the ground but he just had no strength to do anything. He always had his legs in really good positions and had decent wrist control, just way too tired to either push off or go for a submission.
"Jiu- Jitsu champ"
is a misleading title when discussing Aldo. We discussed this in another thread, it’s not like Aldo won the Mundials or anything. He won some mid- level BJJ tournaments, nothing to really write home about. He’s definitely skilled, but putting Aldo on his back is definitely one of the best ways to fight him. His only loss ever was to a BJJ player.

We don't know how he would have done in the Mundials or other tournaments though
because didn’t he stop competing in BJJ tournaments at brown belt? I’ve read that he was completely owning those competitions before he decided to go for mma.
That fight happened six years ago and Aldo was still pretty green. It sounds like Aldo was throwing up submissions except he was against a black belt who knew how to get out of them.
I've seen the fight
Aldo was green (and I think the fight was at 155. Azevedo is a one note grappler, but he was able to get Aldo onto his back and move to his back for the choke.
My only point is that of anything, Aldo’s worst career moments have been from his back. Not that he isn’t competent, but he is very good in the other areas, and putting him on his back (while easier said than done) is the best option.
I agree with you, though. The Azevedo fight was ages ago, and he was completely exhausted by the 5’th round. Given the sickness, injury layoff, travel, and UFC debut against the best striker he’s ever faced, I think he’s certainly competent from his back. Even in exhaustion, I thought he showed some nifty guard work.

This is what Aldo can do to you with a "Bad Performance"

lol, GSP gets poked in the eye and still wins and people bitch like he lost, Silva fights an opponent who’s biggest strength is his weakness and gets a previously bruised rib cracked during the bout and the cherry on top is the guy is using PED’s….and he still manages not only to win but finish his opponent.
Great champs, the true p4p greats fight their best even at their worst. I can only hope that Bones can display half the heart of Aldo/GSP/Silva when faced with serious adversity. The kid is an exciting fighter, but I want to see how he fares when things are not going his way and he has to dig deep and show what he is truly made of.
This fight reaffirmed my faith in Aldo and made me a fan of Hominick. I understand this fight made a wrecking machine look mortal and fallible, but this kid is still only in his mid 20’s still growing and years away from his prime. So please try to put this fight in its proper context: a gassed and ill Jose Aldo at 60/70% can still disfigure, out strike and mutilate top 10 opponents and win 5 round decisions.

I would say Aldo did have to dig deep here.
He looked pretty damn tired by the 2’nd round, and still arguably won every round but the 4’th. At the very least, he tied the 2’nd round, and went to clearly take the 3’rd and 4’th. It’s only the people who ever consider a fighter invincible are the ones who react like this.
If you understand and accept the fact that no fighter is unbeatable, then you don’t have knee jerk reactions like people lambasting GSP for not destroying Shields with a bum eye (even though he did KNOCK HIS ASS DOWN WITH A HEAD KICK), or people calling Aldo garbage for losing ONE ROUND, when he was (probably) sick, coming off a long injury layoff, making his UFC debut in enemy territory, thousands of miles from home, with 55k obstreperous Canadians yelling at him.

Stop saying Aldo slowed down as the fight went on, he didn’t look right all fight long!! Am I the only one who wondered what the heck was happening as Aldo took the fight down in the first two rounds to finish the last 2 minutes of those rounds with mostly ineffective lay and pray? When’s the last time Aldo lay and prayed someone??
For all the flack GSP gets for his fight, Aldo probably is the guy that fought the furthest from his capacities and usual dominance. GSP did what he usually does (as of late, at least). Aldo didn’t look like Aldo, at all. The WEC Aldo better show up for his next fight…
Lay and pray?

Maybe in and of the fact that Hominick is laying on his back and praying he doesn’t grow a horn from Aldo’s bows smashing into his brow.

Well, I did say mostly ineffective. My point was that something was clearly wrong with Aldo if he felt the need to take the fight to the floor and stay in Hominick’s full guard for extended periods of time. Wasn’t he stood up two or three times? It’s not like that he was inflicting a ton of damage, or even attempting at passing. Very un-Aldo-like.
Something was clearly wrong?
I thought Jose was just exerting his full toolset on Hominick. He was working to posture up and throw strikes, it’s not like he was blanketing Mark. Aldo beat Hom up standing, took him down, and beat him up there. Domination. The only good shot Hominick landed in the first round was a glancing hook to the body, whereas Jose must’ve landed half a dozen HARD low kicks, and over a dozen power punches.

All I’m saying is that I don’t recall Aldo ever taking someone down (at least, not in his last 3-4 fights). That he choose to take Hominick down in the first two rounds, and keep him there a few minutes, is puzzling to me. I think he was frustrated that he couldn’t dominate Hominick on the feet early in the fight as he had done to his recent opponents. So, instead of taking a chance at losing either of the first two rounds, he took him down and controlled him on the floor to ensure he’d get the nod for both rounds. That goes especially for the 2nd round, which I thought was Hominick until Aldo took him down to finish the round. But round 1 was pretty close too, until, again, Aldo took it down to finish the round.
He took MTB down.

I think Aldo was dominating the striking in the first round,
and took Mark down just to exercise a different facet of his game. Hominick was getting the better of Jose standing in the 2’nd, and so he took him down. But is it really puzzling to you that Aldo would take Hominick down, to a place where he could land good strikes and Hominick couldn’t? Mark did a good job defensively, but still ate some good shots on the ground.
I have no problem with takedowns if you are trying to posture up and throw strikes, advance positionally to set up submissions and better strikes, etc. It’s just like Rumble Johnson taking Hardy down- judges eat that shit up (even if they shouldn’t), and did some decent damage from the top. I think the real value of taking Hominick down was making him worry about more than just his strikes. The more options you have, the better off you are, almost always.

Sure, nothing wrong with it. But it was surprising as I’ve come to think of Aldo as a destroyer on the feet, a guy who can dominate anyone with his hands, knees and shins. That just wasn’t the case saturday, and while he’s won that fight without ever being in danger, I’m disappointed that he didn’t demonstrate his killer instinct as he usually does. He had Mark hurt at least 2 times during the fight, and never really followed those knock downs with pounding with the intention to finish it right there and then, like he has in the past. I don’t know, kind of underwhelming performance, overall. With the way he’s been built up over the last year, I expected a ton more. Impossibly high standard, I suppose.
I thought it was a good performance
considering all the things going against him (sorry for the repost) Aldo was:
- Potentially sick
- Coming off a long injury layoff
- Traveling thousands of miles
- Making his UFC debut on a show with 55k boisterous Canucks screaming at him
- Fighting a better striker than he ever has.
Not to mention that Hominick is just an incredibly tough sonuvabitch, and the only real proven way to beat him is by being a submission dynamo. Aldo has good grappling skills, but is no Yahya/ Grispi/ Hioki.

I suppose I should take away some of the blame I’m putting on Aldo for not finishing Hominick and give it in the form of credit towards Hominick, you’re right.
But let’s agree that we’re grown accustomed to better than ‘good performances’ from Aldo. But yeah, let’s chalk this up to being sick and coming back from an injury. I just hope we see the WEC Aldo back next time around. I’m afraid he’ll go the GSP route, though… :-/
GSP route
as in going down as the greatest in his weight class thus far in MMA history? Haha, I get what you’re saying. Aldo has definitely looked great, but I think that’s a result of 2 things-
1) Being in better shape. He was potentially sick, coming off an injury, and probably a bit jet lagged, and nervous for his UFC debut in hostile territory.
2) Matchmaking. Faber, Brown, and Gamburyan are all grapplers first, who developed good punching power. Jose has a truly diverse and dangerous striking repertoire, and the grappling to neutralize them, and thus made them all look like ass- clowns.
Hominick was absolutely right- he’s the best striker Aldo has ever faced. And the striking played out similar to how I thought it would (didn’t count on Jose getting tired so quick). Jose landing kicks and dominating early, Hominick perservering and pressing Aldo with punches, landing some good shots and taking advantage of some of Jose’s (somewhat) sloppy punching technique.

I meant going the GSP route in terms of not taking too many risks, fighting to his opponents’ weaknesses and not his own strengths, etc. You know what I mean. Aldo is such a premium talent that he should be able to destroy anyone he faces, I’d be disappointed if he puts all that aggressiveness aside to ensure that he holds onto his belt instead. Like GSP did, unfortunately.
Oh, I know man.
I just think you need to strike a good balance between fighting intelligently and aggressively. At the end of the day, whatever strategy will give you the best ratio of maximum damage done / minimum damage taken is the way to go.

I don’t understand the hate to fighting smart, these guys have a short amount of time to stay on top of the game, if they always fight balls out they’ll end up with a shorter career, like Wandy and Nog, who are some of my favorite fighters ever and I feel bad naming them as examples, but they are too young to have so much mileage and wear and tear. Fighting smart at least gives you more time, and if you’re a champion it’s not your job to give the fans a fight, that’s the challenger’s job, the champ’s job is to defend the title.
not always will those who dumps on you be your enemies
and not always will those who take you out of shit be your friends
I think guys like Aldo & Anderson
have struck a REALLY nice risk/ reward balance in their fighting. The beauty in their fighting is they know exactly when to commit to power strikes, and instead of just putting up a bunch of volume, they save their time and energy for those opportunities. It’s a very efficient, dangerous way of fighting. And their speed, dexterity, and precision greatly facilitate that.

I find Anderson’s game as fighting smart too, he doesn’t go to the floor with BJJ guys because he knows there is a chance for him to lose, striking for him is fighting smart, and Anderson doesn’t respect most people’s striking ‘cause he knows he can own them. It’s like GSP not respecting someone’s wrestling.

I think he didn't respect Sonnen's striking enough,
and so he got clocked, and hopefully he learned his lesson there. Sonnen actually has a solid fundamental striking game. Nothing flashy, but good, straight punches and some decent low kicks.
As for the Leites and Maia fights, as far as I’m concerned, they both kind of deserved what they got. Leites was the one who made that fight boring, it is not Anderson’s fault he wouldn’t go to the ground when Thales flopped onto his ass, and if you’re going to do that, fuck it- he’s going to pretend he’s dribbling your leg like a soccer ball.
Against Maia, he whooped up on him for 3 rounds and Demian had nothing for him. I think he was gassed though, and showboated to conceal that.

yeah
I don’t buy that , I still think Anderson’s injury had a lot more to do with how he looked in that fight than Sonnen being good at fundamental striking.
Agreed 100% about the Leites and Maia though. On the Maia fight I think the antics is really what made him gass, I think he kinda psyched himself out there.

I'm sure the injury had to do with it,
but Anderson had his hands at his waist, and acted like he didn’t even realize Chael could throw a punch. That woke him up though, and he didn’t fuck around standing after that. The lunging elbow he wobbled Chael with was some ninja shit.

Chael said everytime Anderson touched him it hurt
Silva even appeared to hurt him striking from the bottom before the triangle/straight arm bar.

Anderson is brutal man.

And he's really bony
Just rolling with a bony person hurts.
His forearms and lower legs are like flat iron bars.

Yeah it does,
and he knows how to use that. Pain forces mistakes.

LAME EXCUSE
a) for the people that are saying they didn’t know they were on camera when they said that, GTFO of here
b) Hominick looks like that after all his fights, ‘cept a hematoma which happens by chance
c) Aldo doing the pushups was just disrespectful, how come you ain’t doing your monkey dance
d) they are ALWAYS saying Aldo’s not 100% to get people to be afraid of him
By chance?
Aldo elbowed the fuck out of his skull. I wouldn’t call that a coincidence.

Let's look at the facts here:
Aldo was:
- Potentially sick
- Coming off a long injury layoff
- Traveling thousands of miles
- Making his UFC debut on a show with 55k boisterous Canucks screaming at him
- Fighting a better striker than he ever has
Considering all of that, and the fact that he only lost the last round, despite being visibly tired by the 2’nd round… that shows serious heart and determination, and I respect the hell out of him for that.

But wouldn't that make him *gasp*....human!?
He still got the W (aka the most important thing in all sports/professional athletic competition) and dominated his opponent 4 out of 5 rounds imo.
Don’t get me wrong, I wanted to see the destroyer of worlds WEC Aldo, but the slightly sluggish but still brutal and quick but not super sonic version still can get the job done.
I can only hope that other 145’ers think that one bad performance means taking on Aldo can’t be that difficult, yes I am sadistic enough to want to see what it looks like when someone steps into the cage underestimating Aldo.
People do not like to think. If one thinks, one must reach conclusions. Conclusions are not always pleasant.

Haha, exactly man.
It’s the people that buy into the hype, who really believe that these guys are unbeatable, who are responsible for these erratic reactions. I realize that Aldo is a very talented, skilled fighter, but he’s also young, still pretty green, still developing, and isn’t impervious to disease, injury, nerves, traveling, etc. All of those things are very real and if you don’t think so, then MMA fandom is going to be a bumpy ride for you.

Yeah, it was a ploy to make an excuse after the fight *rolls eyes*
These dudes are speaking in Portuguese. If I just finished a fight where I’m sick and feeling terribly the last thing I’m thinking about is slipping in some sly ass excuse while I’m exhausted and feeling sick.
ya because brazilians don't watch the fights right?

Sick or not,
you can’t argue that conditions were ideal for Jose.

dude
just look at when the camera cuts to Marlon putting the shirt on Aldo, he was already talking to him, it’s not like they were waiting for the cue to start talking, Aldo didn’t say a thing so we got it in the middle of the conversation. Plus, no Brazilian website is reporting this, this was not something noticeable which is why it took a full day and a random person to notice it, if it was meant for the camera’s we’d have heard this immediately and it would have been all over the net. have some common sense, this ain’t no conspiracy.

btw
if you’re going to call Aldo out on the push ups, how in the hell do you give a free pass to Hominick who always do them?

I hear you man.
I think doing the pushups was just kind of a friendly joke. I’m sure Hominick doesn’t have a bee in his bonnet over it.

My thing is: if Aldo had enough energy left to do 10 pushups after the fight, why the heck didn’t he do a damn thing in the 5th round and let Hominick hit him with decent shots for the last 3-4 minutes??
Aldo's pushups
were actually kinda lame LOL come one man and he did capoeira??
who said he did Capoeira?
and what does that have to do with anything if true?
not always will those who dumps on you be your enemies

Aldo said he started with Capoeira
duh he’s brazilian they all do it
oh right
all Brazilians do it, sigh

the floor is an easier opponent than Hominick :p
there is a big difference in doing push ups and pushing someone off of you or going for subs when you’re getting hit in the face. btw, Aldo still tagged Hominick with a few hard punches in the beginning of the round, also if you watch it closely, he thought Hominick was going down and waited for it but got taken down by Hominick instead, which led to him getting overwhelmed by Hominick in the second half of the fifth. I think that was his biggest mistake during this fight.
not always will those who dumps on you be your enemies

I thought Aldo
did a good job of avoiding most of Hominick’s shots from the top, and he showed some nice guard work. He was just too tired to successfully sweep or stand up, and as someone else pointed out- I doubt a tired, 5’th round Hominick had much steam behind his punches.

That's right. Aldo felt light-headed by chance mid-week.
