Former EliteXC lightweight champion and Strikeforce welterweight contender KJ Noons (9-2) will square off against Bellator and Sengoku veteran Jorge Masvidal (21-6) at Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum on June 18th.
Strikeforce announced today that former EliteXC lightweight champion and Strikeforce welterweight contender KJ Noons (9-2) will square off against Bellator and Sengoku veteran Jorge Masvidal (21-6) at Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum on June 18th at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. Masvidal recently signed with the promotion and defeated Strikeforce prospect Billy Evangelista in March while Noons is coming off a decision loss to current Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz.
There is some question as to whether to bout will air on the main card at this time. Normally, Strikeforce events only slot four fights for the main card, and three slots are currently reserved for the Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix, one of those being a reserve bout. With the addition of Gina Carano along with a solid heavyweight bout between Daniel Cormier and Jeff Monson, the outlook isn't good. There are some strong rumors that Zuffa's buyout could bring the preliminary card to an outlet like Facebook for fans to enjoy as well.
