Ever since B.J. Penn's UFC 132 fight with Jon Fitch went up in smoke, fans have been wondering what's next for "The Prodigy." If a Monday exchange on Twitter is any indication, it could be former Strikeforce middleweight and EliteXC welterweight champion Jake Shields.
@jakeshieldsajj I would never challenge one of Cesar Gracie's guys, but you've been calling me out for years.Let's do it! I'll contact Dana
@bjpenndotcom even better, let's make it the first 5 round non-title fight
Is this a fight you'd be interested in seeing? Prior to losing to St. Pierre, Shields had won an incredible 15 fights in a row. Penn was impressive against Matt Hughes at UFC 123, but faded late in a tough fight against Fitch at UFC 127.
If this fight does materialize, and it does seem like a practical match to make, it could put the winner right back "in the mix" for a shot at the championship. An extremely relevant fight for the welterweight division at this point.
