In The Club: Rashad and Bones Almost Come to Blows

Earlier today, Maggie Hendricks of Yahoo! Sports reported the following:

UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones and Rashad Evans, the former champ who was supposed to fight Jones, ran into each other at Surrender, a club in Encore in Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that the two nearly came to blows until middleweight champ and peacemaker Georges St. Pierre came between them and talked them down.

(EDIT: In Maggie's article, she lists GSP as the Middleweight Champ. He is, of course the Welterweight champ.)

All this coming on the heels of a scuffle that occurred at the actual UFC fighter's summit between Tito Ortiz and Matt Mitrione. If you haven't seen it yet, here is the video that was captured by Roy Nelson (who also conveniently dubbed some loud music over it, making it nearly impossible to hear the dialogue):

The backstory behind this one is that Matt Mitrione had been making some comments about Tito, and about Tito's ex, Jenna Jameson, during several of his visits with Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour. Tito clearly didn't find the humor in the comments, and wanted to let Mitrione know. In typical "Meathead" form, Mitrione "apologized" to Tito (note: if you're in a fight stance and your fists are clenched, your apology will be considered less sincere), which only made him angrier.

So what do we learn from all of this? On paper, a meeting of every Zuffa employed fighter sounds fantastic. If nothing else, it made for a day or so of great tweets from Jason High (among others). The problem is that you're packing rooms full of alpha male's whose jobs are to beat people up. Some of them like each other. Some of them would like to put the other guys in the hospital. How do you flip that switch off? I'm not sure you can.

Anytime you do something for the first time, you will learn lessons on how to do it better the next. More than likely, Zuffa will amp up on security for the next summit. Anyone want to volunteer for that gig?
