I think that this fight will be competitive actually as Hamill is just so hard to finish, and he just keeps coming forward. Technique-wise, Rampage has much better boxing than Hamill, and Rampage has fought the better competition in his career.

Unless Rampage really shits the bed,

it’s his fight to lose. Hamill has sloppy, phoned in takedowns, and atrocious strike defense.

I definitely think that Rampage will win

I just think that the fight can be competitive considering that Hamill is as strong as an ox, hard to finish, and pushes forward. Like I said, Hamill’s technique isn’t even close to Rampage’s, and Hamill has generally sloppy technique.

He's tough,

but I don’t think Hamill is any stronger than Rampage. Quinton is strong as fuck. Unless he is just horrifically out of shape, he should punch Matt’s lights out.

Still don't know who to pick between the two.

I hope Frankie wins this one. Love watching him fight.

Oh yeah, and let’s do that “show all the prelims on Facebook” thing again. That was pretty fucking cool.

Personally, I’m most looking forward to the Mir/Nelson fight. I could see it unfolding any number of ways.

The matchmaking on this card is really iffy

Alves on the undercard is a mistake and Hammil should not be up there against Page.

by mortarz on May 2, 2011 12:42 AM EDT reply actions

Even the same Rampage

who showed up weighing 250 at the beginning of his training camp against Rashad would whoop up on Hamill. Matt’s telegraphed takedowns and sloppy striking won’t be enough to beat Rampage.

I don't think it's a matter of fighting smart,

I think it’s just a matter of Hamill not being a very good fighter. Page has stout takedown and striking defense, bricks for hands, and when he’s focused- cardio for days.

I don't.

I think Rampage knows he looked like poop in his last 2 fights, and needs to make a statement. The UFC is throwing him a bone with this matchup, they know how much more marketable Rampage is, and it really is about the best matchup against a somewhat name fighter they could put together. This is a guy who was getting outstruck by Tito Ortiz.

Rampage admitted he lost initially.

I don’t think he will be resting on his laurels, but we will see. Fact of the matter is that Rampage has been inconsistent these days.

if his people around him are telling him he won, and most importantly if Dana White is saying he won, Rampage isn’t going to come out later and say he lost.

why do people keep saying Hamil was outsruck by Tito? Ortiz came out strong in the first half of the first round and that’s it. Hamill lit Tito up on the feet the rest of the fight.

Also Rampage, though he is rightly favored to win, has not KO’d anybody in ages. If he wins he’ll win by decision. I’m not really sure Page is any stronger than Hamill.

this gif does not dispute what I just said, which was Tito came out strong in the beginning of the first round. That was the best he looked. He proceded to get outstruck the remainder of the fight. Tito’s face at the end of the fight told the whole story.

Your post

doesn’t dispute what I said.

This is a guy who was getting outstruck by Tito Ortiz.

When Tito was fresh, he outstruck Hamill. But Tito is old and broken down, and he can’t keep a pace like that any more.

Wow he bullrushed him and outstruck him for the first 20 seconds of the fight. I guess that negates the 4:40 seconds where Hamill outstruck Tito. I guess I should go back and provide gifs of Jardine outstriking Rampage and say “This is a guy who was getting outstruck”

Your intilal comment implies that Tito outstriking Hamill was the story of the fight, which it wasn’t.

Besides, I think anyone who thinks Hamill is going to win knows his best path to victory is to not stand and bang, but to wrestle Rampage to a decision.

I don't think

Hamill’s telegraphed, head down, sloppy shot are enough get Rampage down. You need to set that shit up with strikes, time it, and charge through while turning the corner. Page has some stout takedown defense and I don’t see Hamill getting much of anything going before he gets his clock cleaned.

I thought Hamill’s takedowns looked better in the Jardine fight and much better in the Ortiz fight. His takedowns have been set up very poorly in the past. I have nothing to go by other than a feeling he’ll set them up better against a striker up Page’s caliber.

It's possible.

I just don’t think Hamill’s takedowns have ever looked good against someone who even has the slightest ability to dictate range.

And how exactly

did Hamill outstrike Tito in that first round in any way, shape, or form? Just rewatched that first round, and aside from the takedown (which he did nothing with), Hamill got completely outstruck. Tito was kicking him, jabbing, throwing combos… nothing devastating, but Matt did next to nothing.

Been a while since I’ve watched the Ortiz/Hamill fight, but I remember Hamill getting better of the striking later in the round. Even if he didn’t, he certainly did in the 2nd and 3rd rounds

He landed like 1 punch

right before the bell, but that was about it. Ortiz definitely won the striking portion.

you don’t put a rematch of one f the best title fights in 5 years on Spike. there are like 100 other reasons why this is a PPV card but you don’t really need to know them based on the title fight.

Huh?

Hamill didn’t even go out to illegal 12-6 Jon Jones elbows while gushing blood but he’s going to get his lights turned out by a Rampage that couldn’t finish Rashad or Lyoto? C’mon.

i think those elbows hurt like a bitch, but i don't think they knock you out cold since they mostly hit your face, and not your jaw

Jones has never KOed anyone with his elbows, he might break your face and TKO you, but you won’t go out. Rampage on the other hand can pretty much knock anyone out.

O and remember that Hamil has a soft head lol

I’m not saying….I’m just saying.

Good teaser, not Akiyama-Bisping good, but one of their best efforts.

I really hope they explore the Edgar-Maynard rivarly for the next trailer.
