Thanks for Everything Bloody Elbow

Without making a big scene, because god knows I've made enough of those here, I wanted to let you all know this is my last day with Bloody Elbow. Starting next week I'll be joining Luke Thomas at SBNation.

I really appreciate the time I've spent with you guys here. I know we haven't always agreed. There are some of you I've probably never agreed with a single time. But I've enjoyed the dialogue nonetheless. My goal was often to make you think and to spark the conversation. I hope I was able to do that. While I'm proud of some of the features and historical pieces I've been able to write for the site, Bloody Elbow is more than a website. It's a community and one I've been pleased to be a part of.

Thanks to all of you for reading and sharing your thoughts with me in the comments, on twitter, and via email. Keep in touch. Hopefully we'll talk with some of you next week at the new site. I'd be pleased to see you show up in the comments there, if only to tell me what a fool I am for old time's sake.

The FanPosts are solely the subjective opinions of Bloody Elbow readers and do not necessarily reflect the views of Bloody Elbow editors or staff.

GOOD RIDDANCE!

Nah, Jon, you’ve been one of the guys that really got me to write in the first place from interactions on twitter when you were just some author of a book I got for free while working at Maxim. Good luck with SB Nation MMA and hopefully Luke can keep you from getting too wild.

I'm confused

If Bloody Elbow is affiliated with SB Nation, what is the difference if he goes to SB Nation? Why have writers in different places?

It’s all Kid Nate’s fault. He’s tearing this family apart.

I am gonna miss then 1000 comment sections of hate, discussion and tomfoolery that were Snowden articles on BE. MMA Nation will kick ass.

Thanks for all your hard work at BE, sir. You made a lot of people think about alternatives and viewpoints they never would have considered otherwise, which I respect. Have fun over at SBN with Luke, and keep up the pro wrestling references just for kicks. And try to come back over here once in a while and stir up some comment sections, okay?

Especially absent the incredible debate your comment sections inspired – I doubt they will follow. Good luck Jon!

I think Logic

definitely has some kind of Zuffa inside man. Whether that means he is a payed shill (doubtful) or that he has a close friend/ family member working for Zuffa that shares rumors with him, he definitely has some kind of in.

And he’s a smart guy, although his actual writing itself is atrocious. His grammar and punctuation are at a 4’th grade level, srsly.

I don’t know. He has a minimalist style. He seems to find it necessary to construct his arguments block by block. Whether this approach is for his own benefit or for those attempting to digest his thoughts is unclear. But in the end, I personally find that he can articulate a thoughtful position concisely and with a certain authority that is rare here. And it may speak to his associations that you speculate about. He is at least the equal of his rhetorical adversaries, Snowden, et al. I’m not sure that he was ever aiming at good prose, just as I’m not sure that Jon Snowden was ever aiming at a consistent, or authentic, point-of-view.

by Charlie Custer on May 2, 2011 9:04 AM EDT up reply actions

This is wrong in so many ways. He’s borderline illiterate, an obvious liar, and completely wrong in 85% of his “insider scoops.”

by Jonathan Snowden on May 2, 2011 9:09 AM EDT up reply actions   2 recs

The guy is obviously no prophet.

But it says something about his peculiar effectiveness that he excites these flights of exaggeration from those who either disagree with him or are just supremely irritated by his absolutist tone. I’m not sure I’ve been reading the same guy as the two of you. Or maybe I just haven’t read as much of him. I’m late to the game. And no, he’s probably not a very good writer. But his arguments can have the force of insight, his comments, whether you agree or not, a unique voice. Sometimes I guess that voice is brushed with arrogance, even disdain. It probably seems disingenuous, even incredible to those who believe they know enough to judge him right or wrong . Oddly, I always picture a young (and at the time soul-sick) Bob Dylan when I read his commentary, even though I’m certain he is not the lyrical descendant of the Shelley-esque street poet. Still the young man who wrote “It’s Alright Ma, I’m Only Bleeding” seemed to know and feel everything there was to know or feel. The young man who wrote “Like A Rolling Stone” knew only power and with it the possibility of revenge. As for mmalogic, as it was with Dylan at one brief time, it’s not about what you really know, but what you believe you know that matters. Armed with self-belief — or simply narcissism — you may be able to momentarily convince others of your immutable omniscience. You may also feel powerful enough to aim at the destruction of your perceived opponents and detractors. You can do both, many with delusions of grandeur try. But fortunately most who truly understand anything feel less powerful for the fact, not more. Problem is, they do not have anywhere near the ability to entertain.

That's all just part of his charm.

You find his

complete lack of capitalization, punctuation, good grammar/ spelling, and incomplete/ run- on sentences to be an authoritative, “minimalist” style? Here I was thinking he was a shitty writer, but I guess he’s the Phillip Glass of prose.

Snowden is right. Most of Logic’s “sure bets” turn out to be flops. He called the Strikeforce buyout, and that has given him a bit of inflated credibility lately. As I said- I think he has a friend or relative working for Zuffa who passes on rumors to him.

Definitely an interesting character, but if he were a true insider, he would be more than just a BE poster. He would either be a company shill with his own website/ radio show, or SOMETHING.

He called the Strikeforce buyout

Not really. It was well known that Strikeforce was looking to bring in new money and likely selling a share of the company. He never once suggested Zuffa would be the buyer, which of course, was the big story.

I’m definitely going to miss the epic debates and anger under all of your articles. At least I have MMA Encyclopedia to remember you by.

I'm late...

But, farewell and thanks! I’ve always enjoyed your posts and comments, and I’ll always be proud of that one time I beat you head-to-head on the over/under for comments on one of your articles. I took the over…duh ;)

Keep up the Rushfit!

I'll say this

I always read your stuff. I didn’t always agree and it made me incredulous a few times but I always read it.

Plus your encyclopedia was a good read. Thanks for that too.

Thanks you mr. Snowden

Thanks for all the time and effort you put in to this site. You were my favourite writer on BE. I’ll be visiting SBNation.com sometime to see how you are doing :)

Don’t quite understand why SB nation can’t just co-opt / adopt BE and turn it pro into their domain, keeping the community and the writers and just paying them for them nicely rather than just ripping the guts out of BE. something I imagine we may not have heard the last of.
Good luck tho Snowden, I for one will really miss your voice here, hope BE radio can still get the good guests also…

Also, not all of these guys may want a part of it.

Nate is a blogger and loves his blog, what if he doesn’t want to do away with that?

I’m late to the party, but you’ll be misses J-snow…even if your views on Rocky Balboa are horribly skewed.

Listen, Clubber Lang had such a rough childhood. And then someone made him wear those awful earrings. I just felt for the guy.

Movin' on up at SB Nation. I know how you feel, buddy!

Seriously, Snowden … I’ve disagreed with you plenty of times, and insulted you and probably your family at least as many times. You’re a great writer, whose stance I disagree with more often than not, but a damn good writer, and you’ll be a great fit at the MMA hub. You’re very deserving, and I’m eager to see where this goes.

Cheers, mate.
