GSP may not have fought the way everyone wanted him to last night... at least not for the last few rounds. He came out with guns blazing and was looking to knockout Jake Shields early. He seemed way too reliant on the overhand right and a successful jab. He still won the last few rounds... even without full vision in his left eye (obvious by the damage he took later in the fight.
People will try to blame GSP and say that if he really couldn't see, that the fight should have been stopped. I might agree with them but it is up to the cageside doctor to make that call (the same one who let a guy continue with an alien growing from his skull in the previous fight).
Don't blame GSP because he didn't to enough to finish the fight, that isn't the point of the competition. It is nice when we see fights finished but we can't be so bloodthirsty that we forget that this is a sport, where the objective is to when the contest. GSP did everything he needed to do to win the contest, even with one eye.
One thing that people seem to be leaving out is that it is hard to blame GSP for Jake Shields looking like a deer in headlights for the whole fight. He knew that something was off and still couldn't do anything to take advantage of it (outside of the punches to the left eye). Blame Jake Shields for not having a better game plan. Blame his corner for not doing a better job.
