UFC 129 Is Over, Time for a Manny Pacquiao vs. Shane Mosley Rundown
While most people got letdown by the main event match up between Georges St. Pierre and Jake Shields, UFC 129 still delivered as a whole as fights from top to bottom provided us with a ton of action and highlight reel finishes. The biggest night in UFC history, and one of the most entertaining cards of the year just concluded, and now we can look forward to next week's event - A showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley, which will be one of the the biggest boxing shows of the year.
Here's a quick rundown of news, videos and updates, to get you hyped for the upcoming bout between a legend in Mosley, and the current pound-for-pound best, in Manny Pacquiao:
- Top Rank's Pay-Per-View pre-show "Countdown to Pacquiao vs. Mosley" has been uploaded. It's pretty good, so do check out the 7-part series with our friends over at BadLeftHook.com
- When Shane Mosley fought Floyd Mayweather, he landed a punch that wobbled his opponent, but was criticized for initiating the clinch and not attempting to finish. Pacquiao says that if he lands the same shot on Floyd, he would've stopped the controversial fighter:
"I saw that, I did... If I can hit Mayweather like that, I will finish him off. I would continue the attack in a way that Mosley did not. I will attack until Mayweather is gone."
- Manny Pacquiao is currently a huge favorite over the 39-year-old Shane Mosley with oddsmakers having him at -600 to win. Scott Christ talked about the chances of Pacquiao winning a fantasy match up against a prime Mosley.
- Top Rank and Bob Arum offered Juan Manuel Marquez a bout against Pacquiao that would complete their trilogy sometime this fall. Oscar De La Hoya took this as being disrespectful because Manny still had a fight coming up with Mosley, Oscar's former partner from Golden Boy promotions.
For me, [making that offer] shows disrespect to everyone in the press, the people and the fans. Because Pacquiao has a fight with Mosley and what does this tell you? That Pacquiao will defeat Mosley? It's not right. Maybe you wait a little bit, until after the fight and you see what happens because in this sport you never know what will happen.
- It's a week to their fight, and Freddie Roach has been trying to slow Manny down, to make sure he doesn't over-train. Pacquiao weighed at 147 lbs after the workout, and when asked about possibly coming in too light for the fight, he answered: "Payat nga ako (Yes, I’m light). Pero mataba naman ang suntok ko (But my punches are heavy),"
After the jump, a ton of videos for your viewing pleasures.
Here's a quick feature on Shane Mosley and his camp called "Sugartime":
Here's a bonus video from Fight Camp 360 that shows Manny Pacquiao organizing, and playing on a basketball tournament. Naturally, the risk of getting injuries worries his coaches, Freddie Roach and Alex Ariza:
Manny also appeared on Jimmy Kimmel and talked about his new single, a remake of the classic song (Yes, I'm using the term loosely) "Sometimes When We Touch" with Dan Hill:

Its just that its not...
Pacquiao vs Mayweather. Really who is pumped for this fight? Didn’t I just watch Mayweather dismantle Mosley a year ago or something like that.
The key is to hit the guy in the jaw really hard before the other guy does it to you.

If I remember correctly
the justification for this fight is because we haven’t seen Pacquiao fight a “slick black guy” yet. I’m dead serious. Think it was B-Hop who said it.

The odds are the way they are for a reason. Not worth the coin unless a diehard of either fighter. Which I am, so paying for it. No funeral…

I mean really a few hours after an action packed MMA card and this is the best you can come up with?

This is the beat advice. Not sure why the mouth breather irked me this time. Anyhow, what a great couple of weeks of combat sports!

If you don’t like the article then don’t read it. I’m sure there are plenty of other mma sites talking about GSP right now for you to comment on.
Its a conspiracy I tell you!!! He obviously is q mole for ElieteXC and didnt get word that the war is over! WAR KIMBO!

I know I shouldn't even reply to silly comments like these, but let me put it this way
Anderson Silva is PFP best in MMA striking, but it doesn’t mean he doesn’t have jiujitsu as well…
BE is a combat sports site, so while we focus on MMA the most, we also cover the other fight sports, especially fights as big as this. If you have a problem with it, go skip it.

I just don’t get if. I love BE and combat sports in general but there are always posts that don’t catch my interest. So guess what, I either skip it or just skim it and move on. I know the Internet is open to all and doesnt have a filter that discriminates by IQ or general intelligence, but good god. It would be like writing an television network and bitching that the news should not be programmed because it wasn’t entertaining enough. If you don’t like it, don’t watch…or in this case click.

Honestly, I don’t care about any boxing match except Pac/Mayweather. Not here to bag on the topic, but found it interesting that all of my other interests in sports are gone, and MMA has replaced them. Even other combat sports are meaningless to me, anyone else like that ?

I don’t know. I will watch other combat sports sometimes, but it’s not really worth it IMO. Strikers who strike without the threat of takedown, is almost fake IMO. It’s like under false pretense. Trying to strike when someone is desperate to take you down at all costs, is real striking IMO…
i 100% agree

I am lack that with boxing
I never was a passionate boxing fan, but now I get completely and utterly bored whenever I watch it. Doesn’t matter who is fighting, or how action packed it is, I just think keep thinking that one good leg kick would totally put the guy on his ass
I can watch kickboxing though, just not boxing
Agreed. Alot of times I watch other striking sports, I say, hey you can’t do that, you would get head kicked, or taken down, or elbow if you pulled that bullshit in a real fight. You know? They are just incomplete combat sports. Why watch that when you have a complete combat sport you know?
Exactly
I can do it with kickboxing simply because their are guys who just are better at striking and will do everything to keep the fight standing? With boxing though? It is just so limited, i know alot of MMA guys like Jordan Breen talk about the beauty of a great boxing match, but I just can’t take away what I know and ignore it
Well some people still like to watch the high jump and shot put even though there is the decathlon.

I am not saying boxing is a terrible sport and no one should watch it
Just saying that because of MMA and Kickboxing I personally can’t enjoy boxing anymore. As I said though, I never really watched much boxing before I got into MMA so it’s not like I ever was a real hardcore boxing fan
Apparently Juan Manuel Marquez has an offer from Top Rank to fight Pacquiao sometime in October/November.
This fight (Mosley/Pacquiao) doesn’t interest me at all, i’ll watch sure, but the outcome is predictable.
I don’t follow boxing enough to know but is there anyone that people think Pacquiao would actually has a really good chance to lose to? Not including Mayweather which I doubt the fight ever happens.
i dont watch boxing anymore
but i feel like the only boxer that gets talked about anymore is pac. its fuckin ridiculous how bad mma has destroyed boxing

like i said
i don’t watch it, but i haven’t seen a ppv advertisement for boxing without him in at least 2 years.

Not anybody really
People want him to fight some of the younger fighters though. People were interested in watching him fight Andre Berto but he just lost.
Not really, no.
Sergio Martinez, has expressed interest in fighting Pacquiao. But there’s NO WAY Roach would let Manny do it. Martinez, I think, would leave Pacquiao grabbing his ankles with his pants down after 12 rounds.
Nobody at his weight can stand a chance currently, Victor Ortiz still needs a bit more seasoning. But he and possibly Berto down the road can give Manny a good fight.

With you on this. Will watch, but this fight interests me more.

When Kimmel pointed out that
his cd was literally the same song remixed like ten times. I could not stop laughing my ass off.

and Pacquiao is gonna mirq him
are you for real?
