UFC veteran Keith Jardine former and Strikeforce light heavyweight champ Gegard Mousasi went to a majority draw (29-27, 28-28, 28-28) in a poorly officiated and worse judged fight that Mousasi dominated from bell to bell.
CompuStrike had Mousasi landing 124 strikes to Jardine's 45.
Jardine opened up with some of his patented herky-jerky striking then shot in for a single leg. Mousasi used a whizzer to fight back to his feet. Jardine landed some leg kicks then shot in again and got Mousasi down. On the ground Mousasi stood back up before Jardine took him down again and landed in full guard. But Jardine stood up and let Mousasi stand up. Mousasi then opened up with punches and began to hurt Jardine. Jardine got a desperation take down and then Mousasi landed an illegal upkick to Jardine's face. The referee then deducted a point from Mousasi. They locked up and traded punches and knees to end the round.
Mousasi opened the second with a jab and ate a leg kick. Mousasi got a front headlock and attempted a standing guillotine. More sharp jabs from Mousasi bloodied Jardine's face. Jardine's awkward movements did manage to make Mousasi miss a few times. Jardine shot for a clinch and got another take down. But Mousasi was quickly back on his feet, stalking Jardine around the cage, landing hard punches and kicks to the exhausted Jardine. Mousasi hurt Jardine with a kick-body punch combination that hurt Jardine. But Jardine managed to get another take down. Mousasi stood back up quickly and followed Jardine in to land a brutal combination.
Mousasi pressed forward in the final round but quickly landed a low blow that necessitated a pause. Mousasi immediately returned to the attack but Jardine clinched against the fence. Mousasi landed a series of elbows to the head then got a take down of his own. Mousasi immediately applied a guillotine but Jardine escaped. Mousasi took Jardine down again and began to pummel him from the top. Mousasi took mount and pounded Jardine who quickly rolled and escaped then went for a double leg of his own. They separated and traded punches. A lost mouthpiece ended with another time out. Mousasi landed a hard right hand and another that he followed with a kick after the break. Mousasi then took Jardine down again and attempted a kimura then abandoned it to follow with elbows from the top. Jardine went for a desperation arm bar as the fight ended but Mousasi escaped and battered him with punches to the face.
Mousasi, the former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion, won two fights in Japan after losing his Strikeforce belt to Muhammed Lawal at Strikeforce: Nashville.
Jardine was cut by the UFC after losing four straight. He went 2-1 since leaving the promotion before tonight. He took the fight on less than 10 days notice.
