Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley - Live Results and Commentary

As with every major show, Bloody Elbow will be here to bring you live results and commentary for Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley. The live blog will start with the beginning of the Showtime broadcast (10 p.m. ET) so make sure to make Bloody Elbow your home for this event.

The event is headlined by a Strikeforce welterweight championship fight between Nick Diaz and Paul Daley. Also on the card is a highly anticipated lightweight rematch between Gilbert Melendez and Tatsuya Kawajiri for Melendez's lightweight title. Rounding out the card is Gegard Mousasi taking on Keith Jardine and Shinya Aoki returning to the Strikeforce cage to take on Lyle Beerbohm.

As always we have our rule: NO SPOILERS! In the interest of not ruining anything from the undercard that may make the broadcast we ask that you do not discuss the results of the undercard in the comments until either the broadcast ends or the fight makes the air.

The Showtime broadcast is live. First fight up shortly.

Shinya Aoki vs. Lyle Beerbohm - Round 1 - Aoki with a body kick and Beerbohm shoots in and clinches him against the cage. Aoki with a nice trip and he's on top. Aoki takes the back as Lyle tries to scramble. Beerbohm is forced to tap out to neck crank. Shinya Aoki wins by submission (neck crank), round 1.

Gegard Mousasi vs. Keith Jardine - Round 1 - Jardine throwing a lot of strikes early but he looks slow and he's missing all his shots but he shoots in and gets the takedown. Mousasi scrambles and he's back to his feet. Jardine with a jab and an odd leg kick. Body kick by Jardine. Leg kick by Jardine. Mousasi is being patient and looking to land. Left hook grazes the chin of Jardine. Jardine shoots for the single and Mousasi defends. Elbows to the side of the head by Mousasi but Jardine does manage to complete the takedown. Mousasi stands up and lands an elbow but gets taken right back down. Mousasi gets back to standing and lands a right hand counter. Uppercut and a flurry of punches make Jardine turn and run away. He eats a few more shots and his legs are getting rubbery. Jardine with another takedown. A point deducted from Gegard for an illegal upkick as Jardine was still down. Right hand by Mousasi and a flurry to follow. Jardine does manage to land a knee though. 9-9 round with the point deduction.

Round 2 - Mousasi landing early and he avoids a takedown attempt from Jardine. Jardine is trying to stay busy but he's missing and Mousasi is landing. Leg kick by Mousasi and one in return from Jardine. Jardine manages to duck under a punch and get a takedown and eats a punch from Mousasi and now he's standing. Mousasi lands again and a nice body kick. Mousasi tags him again and Jardine is hurt. Keith looking for the takedown now. He gets it but Mousasi up without taking any damage. 10-9 round for Mousasi.

Round 3 - Mousasi with a punch and a knee and...I guess there was an accidental low blow. They restart and Mousasi tries to flurry again. Leg kick by Jardine and he's looking for the takedown again. Elbows by Mousasi and he stays on the feet. Mousasi with a takedown and he has a very deep guillotine choke but Jardine pops out. Another Mousasi takedown and he is landing elbows. He gets to mount but Jardine uses the cage to escape to standing. Mousasi blasts him and Jardine is running away again as the fight is stopped to replace the mouthpiece. Right hand by Mousasi, and another right hand. Mousasi back on top on the ground and he continues grinding away. 10-9 Mousasi on my card but I KNOW the judges are going to score this a draw...

Official Scorecard: 29-27 Mousasi, 28-28, 28-28 it's a majority draw. I guess you can win rounds by getting punched in the face a lot and getting takedowns without landing any strikes or maintaining the position.

Strikeforce Lightweight Championship Fight: Gilbert Melendez (c) vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri - Round 1 - Gilbert comes out and lands a big right that hurts Kawajiri and he tries to stay on top of him. Kawajiri with a head kick but now Melendez landing some huge knees and a flurry of punches that hurt Kawajiri badly. They go to the ground and Melendez can't finish him before they're back to standing. Right hand counter by Melendez and he manages to use distance beautifully to drill Kawajiri again. Now they're on the ground and Melendez is landing huge elbows and this fight is over! Gilbert Melendez wins by TKO (elbow strikes), round 1.

Strikeforce Welterweight Championship Fight Nick Diaz (c) vs. Paul Daley - Round 1 - Diaz taunts and Daley lands a leg kick but doesn't bite on losing his composure. Jab by Diaz, they clinch and both miss strikes. Daley hurts him with a punch and follows him to the ground landing punches and a kick to the body. Diaz gets up but he still looks a little unsteady. Left hand counter by Daley and Diaz with a nice shot to the body and one to the head. Knees from the clinch by Diaz and now he opens up with a huge flurry of punches. Daley on top as they hit the ground. Daley stands up and avoids the takedown attempt from Diaz. Nice left hand by Diaz and Daley is thrown off badly. Daley flurries back and catches Diaz now but eats another shot. They exchange huge flurries of punches now. Daley with a huge punch and Diaz goes down! Daley flurries on the downed Diaz but Nick is recovering. Nice punches from Diaz now and a huge right hand by Daley. Now Diaz hits Daley and Daley hits the ground and as Diaz is throwing punches and Daley looks like he is defending the fight is stopped. Horrible stoppage by the ref. Nick Diaz wins by stoppage (strikes), round 1.
