NCAA Wrestling Champion Bubba Jenkins Radio Interview
Last Sunday SBNation's MMA editor Luke Thomas interviewed this year's 157lbs Division 1 NCAA Men's Wrestling champion Bubba Jenkins on his 'MMA Nation' radio show for Washington DC's 106.7 The Fan. As I mentioned in my NCAA Wrestling Results write up Jenkins previously wrestled for Penn State University until a falling out with new coach and 2004 Olympic Gold medalist Cael Sanderson leading him to transfer to Arizona State which has served as home base to Aaron Simpson, Ryan Bader and UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez.
Jenkins, a team mate of the inspirational 125lbs champion Anthony Robles talked with Thomas about his team mate and how they train together, as well as his own account of his win and dramatic story in addition to his plans for an MMA career and which current UFC fighter he sees modeling himself on. A must listen for anyone wanting to know more about this charismatic wrestling champion.

Thanks for posting, KJ! I am excited as I’ve ever been for any elite prospect’s entry into MMA. His win over Taylor is the ultimate in triumphant vindication.

Yeah me too. What do you reckon he’ll fight at, Light Weight of Featherweight? He has wrestled as low as 149lbs when he was a freshman.
I was thinking about that today
He can make 155lbs easily. I bet he’ll go featherweight, too, but it’s not a given.

Great interview
Luke really does a great job at weaving the narrative between questions- good stuff. Extra points for the disapproving “hm” after the Urijah aspiration.

Taylor was a freshman lets see what would happen in a rematch
Bring the Cup home to Detroit in 2011!!!
Won't happen, that was Jenkins last match collegiately
I believe Taylor may have already beaten Jenkins earlier in the season but I’m not sure so don’t quote me on that. I’ll need to look that up.
I know it was his last match but I would stil like to see them go at it again.
