UFC: Rio Teaser Video Featuring Royce Gracie and the Top Brazilian Fighters
The UFC just released their first promotional video for UFC: Rio, happening on August 27, in Rio de Janeiro's HSBC Arena. This will be the second time the company heads to Brazil, with their maiden voyage happening back in 1998. The short teaser had this brief message, originally in Portugese:
The UFC is coming to Brazil, where the fighters are produced, and the champions are forged.
The video featured Brazil's top UFC fighters such as Vitor Belfort, Jose Aldo, Wanderlei Silva, Mauricio Rua, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Thiago Alves, Junior dos Santos, Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida, and of course, UFC Hall-of-Famer, Royce Gracie. While it's almost impossible for all of them to be on the card, they have all expressed interest in fighting on their home country. This of course includes the original "Ultimate Fighter" in Royce Gracie, who at 44-years-old, is still trying to negotiate with Dana White to get him on the card.

To be honest,
I’d rather see Renzo Gracie fight in Rio.

Hughes
would just run through him again.
You know what I would love? Nogueira/ Crocop 2. Or maybe Nogueira/ Rizzo, they should be able to sign Pedro no problem. As for Royce, fights with Sakuraba, Miletich (longshot), Frank Shammy (another longshot), or Wallid Ismail would make sense. It would be nonsensical to put Royce against a young, capable fighter.

Hmm.
Royce vs Miletich or Shamrock does sound more appealing than any of the other options I’ve seen.

It's a shame
both guys aren’t on good terms with Zuffa. They should both be H.O.F.ers. And they would make a good opponent for Royce.

I think for sure it will be big vs brendan.
It wont be wandy vs leban because they are fighting in july .
Ahhhh, weak.
I don’t want to see Nog get knocked out again. I’d much rather see him in a nice little senior circuit matchup.

I really can’t think of a reasonable match up for Royce. Every WW would just out class him. Maybe a Kris McCray or Amir Sadollah? But that would be a slap in the face to the Gracies, in my opinion.

If Royce Gracie does somehow get to fight on that card, it would have to be against someone special. I don’t think that Royce would take a fight to be used as a stepping stone for the likes of Amir and especially McCray. Would Matt Serra work? I just can’t think of anyone else that would be a good opponent for Royce.

I've been saying this for so long, hoping for Renzo but will take Royce too.
Wallid Ismail is the opponent. You know it’s the right thing to do. Unless you chicken. You coward. You scare about him.

Shogun Rua vs Rampage Jackson 2
Wanderlei Silva vs Chris Leben

Lyoto Machida vs Phil Davis
NO. I refuse to have my two favorite fighters face each other. YES THE UFC RUNS ON MY WHIM. Let Belfort fight Marquardt instead.
Gracie vs Saku is the only matchup that makes sense at this point
both can enjoy a final hurrah that they both deserve. regardless of the outcome, it’s a nice way to their careers.

My complaints about James Toney being in the UFC were getting stale.
If they put Royce on a UFC PPV in 2011, I have a brand new thing to be pissy about.

are you sure thats the only thing you'll be pissy about in 2011?

Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.
I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.

Royce vs. Minowaman obviously. Provided Minowaman loses 80 pounds… and wears a mask.

Ugh
If Royce is on the main card the rest of the card better be stacked to shit.
I don’t care what his name is. He sucks and I don’t want to pay 50+ bucks to watch shitty fighters. Put him on the undercard so Brazil can see him and I don’t have to watch a legend get murdered OR have to watch a freak show match just so he has a chance at winning.
If you wanna put a Gracie on there, put Roger. At least he is a prospect of sorts and not an over the hill 44 year old.
Royce Gracie, James Toney. Both one dimensional fighters who refused to evolve. At all. One was widely ridiculed and abused, the other one is set for another big payday after already being brutally exposed by a modern day mixed martial artist. I don’t care how many karate black belts and savate fighters he tapped out almost 20 years ago, i don’t wanna see Royce Gracie in the biggest MMA promotion in the world ever again.
Er...
When did Toney ever refuse to evolve? He’s a boxer for Christ’s sake! It’s not like a nice double-leg would have ever helped him against Sam Peter.

Instant evolution! ;)
I guess if Toney fights MMA again, and can stay on his feet a second longer… that’s evolution, baby.
