On Saturday, April 9th, World Champion Gilbert Melendez will make the second defense of his Strikeforce World Lightweight Title against the top-ranked Japanese superstar Tatsuya Kawajiri who unanimously outpointed former Strikeforce lightweight belt-holder Josh Thomson in his last fight:
"I believe I'm the best lightweight in the world right now. And that's what my new mission is, to prove that. The Strikeforce belt means a lot to me, it's really cool to be the Strikeforce champ. Is it prestigious as the UFC? No. But I've been collecting belts and I think that's the last one on the list. Tune into Showtime April 9th. I'm looking to make a statement here and I've been representing the U.S. and California for a long time overseas and in Japan. I look forward to putting on a good show."
