Tough call on some of the bonuses tonight, FOTN and KOTN in particular. Especially because giving out multiple bonuses would be appropriate but cut hugely into the UFC’s profit at 129k a pop.

KOTN: Machida & Makdessi

Honestly they should just have a guaranteed bonus for finishing a fight

No worrying about whether someone later in the night getting a better KO or submission, knowing there’s a guaranteed big bonus for fighting a bit riskier.

Totally agree

I have argued for this before, it makes too much sense for increasing the “watchability” of fights, which imo is critical to the future growth of MMA…

$129k is about 1% of the live gate revenue…they could give $120k to every fighter on the card with little real affect on the bottom line for this event…

No shit

you can’t tell if your eye is injured unless you get checked out by a specialist.

His corner was just trying to calm him down during the fight too, you can tell how freaked out he was by it.

by av1o3 on May 1, 2011 2:35 AM EDT up reply actions

So I'm confused, when a doctor checks a fighters eye

during a fight after a poke- Is he qualified to check it and let the fight continue or does he need to see a specialist?

I’m not trolling. Serious question.

Just Breed!

by ScoreCardOTN on May 1, 2011 2:39 AM EDT up reply actions

The doctor normally checks if they can still see through that eye but they normally only check on the fighter’s eye if there is too much blood getting into it or if it swollen shut.

It was already clear that GSP’s eye was fucked but the doctor didn’t check him out until after the fight, then he probably went to the specialist to see what is causing the injury. There might be something like a scratched cornea or maybe even a detached retina.

Something similar happened to Alan Belcher. he was just sparring like usual but then he started to lose vision out of his right eye. Got it checked out by a specialist and said he needed to get surgery. I think there were talks that he might not be able to fight again too.

I mean if it’s that serious of an injury why would you take the chance of getting hit in that eye for the next 3 rounds when you can’t even see out of it? tard bag

if he held out his hand and told the doctor he couldn’t see, the fight would be over. So he listened to the advice of his corner, gutted it out. Once the fight was over, there was no real need to put himself in jeopardy. So he excused himself, and attended to his health. He did what he had to do during the fight, once it was over he took care of himself. Really not that hard to understand

by disinferno06 on May 1, 2011 2:59 AM EDT up reply actions

Everybody else has made logical points except you

and I’ve conceded to all of their point except yours. I didn’t say for him to tell the doctor he couldn’t see but if he was that concerned with it to have him check it out and take the break.

GSP rarely takes risks and I don’t see him trying to continue a fight with only one eye and put his belt and legacy in jeapordy. If it was that bad, I think h would of taken the NC instead of RISKING a loss cuz he ain’t risking anything during a fight you TARD BAG (whatever that is).

Makes sense.

It wasn’t caused by an illegal move so it wouldn’t be a no contest. Since it was caused by a legal move and GSP would of been unable to continue, it would have been deemed a loss.

Bullshit that they didn't give out two KOTN - Makdessi deserved it for the spinning backfist

Also, how do you run 3 hour PPV show, and 1 hour Spike prelims, and manage to not show that spinning backfist KO? I was lucky enough to watch it live on the FB stream, but come on. I know it was in the third round, but man, if you don’t have the time to show the whole fight then at least just show the finish somewhere in there. One of the most epic knock-outs I’ve seen in a very long time, it’s just stupid that they would deprive the common man of that shit. And yeah I mean the Machida karate kid KO was probably even more sick, but come on, if there has ever been a time for two KO bonuses, it was this event. And lord knows they made enough revenue that they could afford it. Overall I really enjoyed the event of course but this annoyed me.
