How did these two get here?
Jose Aldo began his career 10-1 when he entered the WEC in June of 2008. He ran through the featherweight division with five straight TKO victories before meeting champion Mike Brown for the belt at WEC 44. Just over six minutes into the fight, Aldo had his sixth consecutive stoppage victory and the WEC featherweight strap. He brutalized Urijah Faber's legs over five rounds in his first title defense at WEC 48, and stopped Manny Gamburyan in six minutes with punches at WEC 51.Jose Aldo assumed the UFC featherweight title after the WEC assimilated into the company.
Mark Hominick's had an up and down career. He began his career 5-4 before going on a five-fight winning streak. Another 5-4 run brought his career record to 15-8. Another five-fight winning streak; including wins over Yves Jabouin, Leonard Garcia, and George Roop; brought him a 20-8 record and a UFC featherweight title shot.
Why should you care?
It's win-win for you. If Jose chooses to stand with Hominick, we should be in store for an entertaining fire fight. If he chooses to bring the fight to the floor, however, we'll finally get a chance to see the vaunted ground game that's always talked about.
