well…. he did last until the last sec against marcelo garcia…. I think he’ll do just fine…. he’ll probably play the bjj equivalent of lay n pray and possibly even get a ref decision out of this

It’s as if no one has seen Diego against Marcelo Garcia. Sanchez is pretty ridiculous on the ground, and everyone seems to forget it was Diego nearly cranking his opponents arm and not Nick Diaz in their classic scrap. Hall got muscled around by Nate Diaz. I’d actually be shocked if Diego loses to Hall’s 50/50 tomfoolery.

Diego was completely dominated in that match against Marcelo. The only thing he managed to do was not get subbed. While that is impressive, lets not get carried away here.

I’m not. I just think it’s impressive, especially given Diego’s inexperience in gi and no-gi competition, in addition to the fact that he’s been training with guys like Xande Ribeiro on top of the fact that Hall will be the much smaller man. Hall “murder” Diego? I don’t think so.

50/50 tomfoolery. Hah.

Have you ever rolled with a good 50/50 or inverted guard player? It’s unbelievably hard to deal with. It’s either stay in the inbetween, open guard limbo, or dive right into a leglock/ triangle.

Diego’s a legit grappler, but he will be playing defense the whole time against Hall.

50/50 isn’t nearly as effective in competitions anymore. Sure, it’d crush me, but I really expect diego to get a safe win.

its "kinda easy" to shut it down. Its kinda gimmicky, but hall has such strong basics he makes it work.

Watch maxwell vs. Hall.

I how ever don’t expect this to be an easy win for either. Hall is a full time tourny player and diego is a Saulo brown belt/ profighter. I am looking forward more to this than at least one of the ufc main card fights.

I was being facetious in calling 50/50 “tomfoolery”. I do consider it somewhat ‘gimmicky’, but gimmicks and “tomfoolery” can be awesome in the hands of the right grappler, like Mendes, for example. As for rolling with it personally, never. I don’t have access to a premier gym. I’ve tried using it personally, and it’s just not my bag (especially without the gi), although surely that has to do with the fact that I have zero ability in the first place.
