#1 Jon Jones was expect to face former teammate #3 Rashad Evans in his first title defense, but an injury to the champion has derailed those plans.
Instead, Evans will square off against the overmatched #9 Phil Davis while he waits for his title shot.
This Saturday's UFC 129 may be our last chance to watch #16 Randy Couture as he plans to retire following his bout with #5 Lyoto Machida.
#4 Quinton "Rampage" Jackson will try to take another step toward a title shot when he takes on #17 Matt Hamill.
Based on the premise that all MMA rankings are subjective but that it’s still useful and informative to know who the online MMA community as a whole ranks as the best fighters in MMA, we collect and average the rankings of the top MMA websites to produce our consensus rankings. We compile the top MMA rankings from each of our sources and award 25 points for a first place ranking, 16 for a 10th place ranking, 1 for a 25th place ranking. A formula is used to "normalize" the data so all fighters are awarded points from those lists that do not include a full 25 fighters. This formula ensures that each ranking site awards the same number of total points regardless of how many fighters they choose to rank. Each fighter’s total is divided by the number of possible points to determine their standing in the Consensus Rankings.

I always enjoy these rankings ...
… if for no other reason than the fact that you rank the top 25, rather than merely the top 10.
I wish you’d expand it to the top 50, or even the top 100 – but I suppose that’s getting greedy on my part.
And I say look out for Alexander Gustafsson. I’m really, really high on him.
FightMatrix
gave him a huge bump for drawing Mousasi.

I guess those kinds of decisions are the reason I've never heard of them
Let the fighters fight, let the referees ref, but dear God, don't let the judges judge.

i hate to rag on joe silva
he has a tough job and usually does well. and i know there were injuries and unexpected things going on. etc.
but there is no excuse in the universe to explain why we are not seing jackson v. evans and hammill v. davis.
two fights that make sense instead of two fights that make no sense.
dumb, dumb, dumb.
Sure there's an excuse
Jackson/Hamill was booked before the Jones/Evans fight was off the table and it’s really not fair to the fighters to change their opponents if they don’t have to. You think Hammil wants to lose his fight with Rampage? Maybe Rampage said no to an opponent switch.
Don’t just assume that it’s some kind of failure in matchmaking. Injuries and other things happen and sometimes the cards don’t come out the way we’d like them to in an ideal world.

well
hamill/davis was booked before jackson/hamill. they broke that fight up. then they booked jackson/hammill before jones/evans, when everyone was hoping for jackson/evans, and that fight was widely decried.
the whole thing was done to pressure evans into fighting jones and now that fight isn’t even happening and we’re left with two dumb fights instead of two very good ones.
when jones/evans fell through, silva’s options were limited. but a lot of dumbness led him into that point. and i still might have tried to switch things around to get things the way they should be, whether that’s “fair” to the fighters or not.
Based on reported facts and the parties involved
Rashad said he would have rather waited to see the outcome of Jones/Shogun, and he did so they booked a fight for Rampage after his opponent flopped a drug test, pretty simple, no convoluted conspiracy or anything like that at all.
This isn’t a series of dumb moves, it’s just bad luck and circumstance, you’re reading way too much into things and making a ton of assumptions.

i'm not saying there weren't injuries involved
or elements of bad luck.
but the hamill/rampage fight was dumb when it was booked. and the evans/davis fight was dumb when it was booked.
if they broke up hammill/davis when tito got injured so davis could fight little nog, i’m not sure whey they can’t break up the hamill/rampage fight.
Who else were the supposed to book against Rampage?
With Evans unwilling to take that fight they needed to book an opponent, so they booked the best guy they had available.

2-5
I feel are all interchangable, except Jackson should be a definite 5 imo due to loss to evans, shogun, and basically a loss to machida. I know thats not how it works as far as rankings, but it’s not like we have Hamill ranked at number 2 because he “beat” jones
You can’t compare Rampage’s victory over Machida to Hamill’s “victory” over Jones. That’s just silly.

+1 to this
I would also like to see King Mo and Ryan Bader. Frankly, I just want to see King Mo in the UFC, or at least fight more than once a year.

Thiago Silva defines a fighter with top ten skill, but doesn’t have the strength of record to really justify a top ten ranking. At least to me, he looks like he will be a legit threat to any top 15 Light Heavyweight, but I would like to see him beat someone higher than Jardine to see him ranked so high.
Check out the C&D Channel on YouTube for MMA reviews, predictions, analysis, and other MMA related content.
Don't see how Mousasi remains so high.
I know he effectively did beat Jardine, but Mo shellacked him last year. Why is he above Mo?
probly because
Mo didn’t look very good in that win at all and has been on the shelf for 9 months and still hasn’t fought.

![Always honest, Forrest Griffin tells Sherdog he's anticipating a difficult weight cut and conditioning issues for his upcoming fight in Rio against Mauricio "Shogun" Rua:
"I definitely put on more weight than I would like," Griffin told Sherdog.com. "I need to cut weight and it won’t be easy. I’ll have a lot of problems until the fight in Brazil, but I’ve gotta do it. I don’t want to fight at heavyweight, so I gotta cut that f--king weight."
"He’s one of the best fighters ever," Griffin said of his opponent, who he submitted in September 2007. "He has a blitz style. He goes forward. He’s dangerous. I gotta make him move backward and let’s see what happens. I want to go hard for all 15 minutes of the fight."
"It’s difficult to adjust yourself [to another country]," said Griffin. "There’s the jetlag thing, and it’s difficult to make weight since Brazil doesn’t have the distilled water I use in the U.S. and the food I need to eat. It’s always difficult to change your routine when you go to another country. I feel stupid because I can’t communicate with people from the hotels and can’t even say how I want my eggs. It’s clearly a pain in the ass."
