Based on the premise that all MMA rankings are subjective but that it’s still useful and informative to know who the online MMA community as a whole ranks as the best fighters in MMA, we collect and average the rankings of the top MMA websites to produce our consensus rankings. We compile the top MMA rankings from each of our sources and award 25 points for a first place ranking, 16 for a 10th place ranking, 1 for a 25th place ranking. A formula is used to "normalize" the data so all fighters are awarded points from those lists that do not include a full 25 fighters. This formula ensures that each ranking site awards the same number of total points regardless of how many fighters they choose to rank. Each fighter’s total is divided by the number of possible points to determine their standing in the Consensus Rankings.

It's such a sham that Overeem is not ranked #1
He is officially the most deadly striker in the world. The current Strikeforce champion, and a absolute monstrosity in life. He is the best.
He's got a lot to prove in MMA still
His last victory was against Brett Rogers. He has a massive amount of potential but until we see him fight against some of the higher-ranked guys it’s just not very logical to say that he’s the best
Totally forgot that fight happened.
So has Duffee, I reckon.

Don't be a sheep
and let the media brainwash you. Let me put it like this for you: do you see any possibility of neither Cain Velasquez nor Junior dos Santos winning a K-1 World GP? What’s more, do you see either one, great fighters no doubt, is able to wrestle with Overeem AND keep him on the ground? The answer is NO. Oh, let’s not forget that Fedor was -500 favorite before his bout with Silva. MMA is a new sport, you have to figure out rankings on your own. Overeem is the best, man. And Lesnar is ranked around 6 or 7 at most, his professional record is 5-2, including victories over Min-Soo Kim, Heath Herring, and Frank Mir; whom he supposed to feed on.

aka, this isn't K-1 son.
football teams don’t get ranked based on how much they can collectively bench press.
You’re ignoring a multitude of other facets of the game.
Admittedly, Overeem has wins by submission, but he has not faced wrestlers of the caliber of Cain or Brock.
But, time will tell. There’s no sham.

Why can’t Cain keep Overeem down? Because you said so? Can Overeem keep pace with Cain if it lasts more than a round or 2? The Answer is NO.
The fight would be amazing and yeah Overeem has a damn good chance to beat anyone in the world, but if he doesn’t land that devastating shot then what? Theres no way that body of his can keep up with Cain.
i just want to see him smash werdum ASAP
so that THAT dude’s inflated ranking gets to droppin.

Such a sham?
The man’s best MMA win in years was over Brett Rogers. As much as I champion Rogers’ cause, a win over him does not make you the #1 fighter. Neither does a win over Todd Duffee.
Alistair is a BAMF, but he hasn’t been truly tested in MMA for a while now. Werdum should be a good barometer, and I expect Reem to win handily.

There's a special kind of crazy going on in this list
when Werdum and Silva are ranked over Reem. Werdum at #2 strikes me as a sham.
Proud member of the Sports Injury Industrial Complex: We feel your pain and it feels good.
Considering Fedor's status at the time,
as well as the recent win over Bigfoot, that spot is absolutely warranted. Reem simply hasn’t done anything huge in MMA for a while.

These rankings are spot on.
I couldn’t come up with a better ranking than this myself, perfect order IMO.

You're comfortable with Werdum at 2?
I feel like Fedor’s subsequent loss to Bigfoot at least somewhat discounts the win that put Werdum in the #2 spot. I guess you can make an argument for the ranking based on accomplishment, but in my mind it just challenges credulity to suggest he is the second best HW in the world.

Nah,
I don’t believe in retroactive analysis like that. Werdum beat Fedor when he was at the height of his powers and mystique. No matter how Fedor does for the rest of his career, Werdum will always have that. The only fair way to deal with rankings is how they were in context.
Bigfoot’s win over Fedor was also pretty quality, but not as good as Werdum’s. You have to give a guy credit for solving the puzzle of a guy who was on such a long tear. You beat the man, you are the man.
I personally put Dos Santos at #2, but Junior really hasn’t had a win as good as Werdum’s win over Fedor. I would probably go Cain, JDS, Werdum, etc.

Yeah for me JDS is #2
He may not have a signature win on the level of Fedor, but he has a long run of very good wins, and is the #1 contender in the top organization. He also, it needs to be said, put the current #2 to sleep the last time they met. If I had a vote, I’d be ranking JDS #2.

Yeah,
and some people will point to Werdum’s poor shape for that fight as being something that detracts the value of Junior’s performance. While I actually agree with that, either way you cut it, you have to put Junior above Werdum. You can’t detract from Junior’s performance, and at the same time excuse the fact that Werdum was completely out of shape, and slinging sloppy haymakers.

Totally agree about the retro-analysis
People always want to revise history and start calling people cans because 5 years ago they lost to a guy who lost to a guy who another guy beat.
agreed
but its ok…once jds smokes brock and overeem pounds werdum itll look more normal
also i feel bad for monson..floating around subbing nobodies…time for a catch weight fight with fedor :) hes wanted it for years now
Fine! I'll go build my own lunar lander, with blackjack and hookers. In fact, forget the lunar lander and the blackjack.
PRIDE fan boy
I have no idea
why Cain gets the #1 spot for beating brock, but brock got it for fedor losing to werdum. Why didnt werdum get the #1 spot for beating fedor, like cain did for beating brock? zuffa much
