Kevin Iole, of Yahoo Sports, is predicting a Shields upset against GSP at UFC 129. Given Iole's history of what I would call "safe" picks most of the time (especially in boxing), I just thought I'd share this quite surprising choice. Iole has always loved GSP, and has touted him as one of the greats since way back. I don't think he's picked against GSP since probably the second, or perhaps the first, Hughes fight.

This is a moment when I feel as though the insiders of the sport know something I don't. Everyone has been (and will be) mentioning the Shields v Henderson fight as evidence to support the underdog, but I don't know how much that means. I guess we'll know more after Saturday, but to my eyes, Henderson is an old wrestler who relies on heavy hands now because he doesn't quite have the tank he used to (also: his hands are deadly). Anderson Silva choked out a winded Henderson in the second round of their middleweight title fight, and the fact that Shields laid on top of Henderson for a seemingly never-ending five round snoozer doesn't lead me to the assumption that he is the one to defeat GSP, nor does the fact that he wrestled down Kampmann *just long enough* to get his hand raised. If Kampmann had fought GSP instead of Shields that night, I think he would've come out much worse for the wear.
Your thoughts?
