Matt Riddle vs. T.J. Grant, Charles Oliveira vs. Nik Lentz at UFC on Versus 4
The card for UFC on Versus 4 in Pittsburgh on June 26th continues to grow as the UFC announced two more bouts for the event today.
Another intriguing matchup is on tap for the UFC on Versus card on June 26th, as UFC President Dana White announced that verbal agreements are in for a welterweight scrap between T.J. Grant and Matt Riddle.
Dynamic lightweight prospect Charles Oliveira will look to rebound from the first loss of his career (against Jim Miller) when he takes on Nik Lentz (who has not lost in six UFC bouts) in a match that was verbally agreed to today. The two will duke it out on the UFC on Versus card on June 26th.
Grant (16-5, 3-3 UFC) has had an up-and-down UFC career, with all of his wins followed by losses in the next fight. Most recently dropping a decision to Ricardo Almeida in December, Grant needs a big showing here to make a case for his spot in the UFC's stacked welterweight division. Riddle (5-2, 5-2 UFC), meanwhile, while always a fan-favorite for his unrelenting style, was criticized heavily for his sloppy striking in a decision loss against Sean Pierson, also in December. Riddle will have to show more evolution in his game if he hopes to deal with a seasoned vet like Grant, although Grant has shown susceptibility to stifling top-control in the past, which Riddle certainly can employ.
Oliveira (15-1, 2-1 UFC) was riding a wave of hype into his bout with Jim Miller at UFC 124, but made some rookie mistakes and paid for them when Miller tapped him out with a kneebar. Still very young and with some very promising skills in all areas, Oliveira has a opportunity to regain some momentum against Lentz. Nonetheless, Lentz (21-3-2, 5-0-1) is a problem for anyone at 155. Despite a smothering style that many have criticized, Lentz remains undefeated in the UFC and silenced some of the critics with a gutsy come-from-behind submission victory over Waylon Lowe at UFN 24 last month.
