This is going to be an awesome event.
Can’t wait for GSP to beat up on a Cesar Gracie guy. Although I like Shields, I can’t stand the rest of their stupid camp. I see them getting taken out one by one.

Count me in.
I wanna see him against Mr. Anderson, he will stand a bigger chance than Geogres…
From China with love.
And rice. A lot of.
Well
It’s rather I have no faith in Geogre than I have in Jake.
Nothing against Geogre, I just think he’s too small for Silva, the wrestlers able to wrestle-fuck Silva should be at Sonnen’s size.
As for Jake, part of me is afraid the best thing he can pull is a Maia-like five round…
But then again I kinda fall into Rogan’s hype line, “the guy is a winner”, if he can get the win against Okami and Hendo(both are successful UFC MW), I think he should be a better option to take out Silva, rather than a welterweight, even the WW is GSP.
From China with love.
And rice. A lot of.
Ok
I interpreted your comment wrong, just forget I posted at all.
You thought I was saying Jake>GSP?
No : )…GSP is better than Jake, I just think style-wise it’s Jake should be fighting Silva, not GSP…
From China with love.
And rice. A lot of.
at first yes,
I read it kinda quickly, and then you pretty much hammered the point home in your response
That would be bad for me
Jake just doesn’t have the tools to make the fight as interesting and well, for lack of better word, meaningful.

Me thinks
there is no way in hell Jake is going to make the master of taking the fight where he wants it to be(GSP) somewhere he doesn’t want to be.
I'm gonna give you three seconds; exactly three-fucking-seconds to wipe that stupid looking grin off your face or I will gouge out your eyeballs and skull-fuck you!
At least Shields has an out now.
If he wins, he can say the fight took place exactly where he wanted it, and if he loses, he can say he wasn’t able to get the fight where he wanted it.

How many times have we heard that exact statement from one of GSP’s opponents?
Well what else you want them to say? “Georges is going to bully me around the octagon and I’m really banking on a lucky punch.”
:P
fair enough
but it’s getting a little old, I mean, I hate Sonnen to the core of my soul, but atleast he’s got stuff to say.
really need an edit button
I meant to say, Sonnen has new stuff, or even remotely interesting stuff to say.
Who really cares what they have to say though? A fighter before a fight is a complete liar by necessity. Sonnen’s a liar by pathology.

Hendo knocked him out in the first round
But Shields landed head first, and the impact brought him back. It was a damn shame, if he would have landed another way it would have been the end of the fight.

As Brookhouse pointed out,
the UFC is marketing GSP/ Shields as a very competitive fight. And while I agree that it is, they’re obviously glossing over each man’s flaws.

When anderson finally gets beat it will be by an elite bjj black belt.
Anderson was so cautious during those fight because there was such a real chance of losing.

Elite grappler.
Having a BJJ black belt is nice, but doesn’t necessarily mean you are instantly a grappling superstar. Maia didn’t have the chops to get Anderson down, and he’s as elite a BJJ black belt as they come. I think Jacare has the takedowns and athleticism to get Anderson on his back consistently, and the ground striking + submission chops to really threaten Ando.

Anderson was in Maia's head.
Maia Can get him down. They will fight again.
Jacare and Anderson are Homies. I don’t think they will ever fight. But I agree with what you are saying.
And about having a black belt. I am completely aware of what it means. Depending on who a belt is from means a lot. Name a Fabio Gurgel or Cesar Gracie black belt that isn’t a wiz on the mats. I am not gonna call out schools…. but there are some schools that the belts are kinda for sale. It cheapens the art imho. I wish they wouldn’t do that.

I hear you man.
I know Jac and Anderson probably won’t fight, especially considering that SF won’t be folded into the UFC for a while, and Ando seems to be a few fights away from retirement. Stylistically though, i see him as being one of the few men who could get him down and actually accomplish something from there.
However, I have to disagree when you say Maia couldn’t get Anderson down just because he had “gotten to Demian’s head”. Anderson’s footwork and distance control are second to none, and that was the real reason Maia couldn’t get Ando down. And with how their first fight went, I don’t see the UFC giving Maia a rematch for quite some time. I think the GSP superfight is much higher priority.

But honestly
is it really going out on a limb to say that pretty much anyone’s toughest fights will be against the elite strikers of their division? Unless it’s someone like Chael, whose toughest fights are against the elite strikers and average jiu jitsu practitioners of the division.
This comment is intended for entertainment purposes only. Any resemblence to the actual truth is entirely coincidental.
Not really...
If you’re a guy with great takedowns and top control, I would say an elite striker wouldn’t be as much of an issue as someone who can present danger on the mat, and can stuff those takedowns (or potentially get takedowns of their own). Maybe if it’s an elite striker with elite takedown defense in this example.

Paul Daley is less dangerous than Jake Shields and Josh Kos
Cheik kongo is less dangerous than frank mir or Brock.
Jon fitch has two wins over Thiago Alves. ( I couldn’t bring myself up to the task of calling Jon Fitch dangerous.)

Meh,
as far as fight ending ability goes, I would definitely consider Daley more of an immediate threat. He has the power and the technique to put out your lights. Shields’ only real homerun finisher is his guillotine, and Koscheck’s is his right hand (which is much less reliable than Daley’s striking IMO).

Neither knee was a knockdown. The first one you can see in your gif that he reaches for the takedown a split second before the knee. He was going for it and Kampmann kneed, that wasn’t a knockdown. The second was also a takedown in reaction from the knee. Most wrestlers intinctually go for takedown when they get hit hard, but definately not a knockdown. The third one is of course a knockdown but that same punch puts most folks to sleep.
I think both of those rung his bell;
they definitely landed. And if neither of them were knockdowns, then Shields sure was doing his best impression of getting knocked down.

he was reaching for the double the whole time. i dont think they were knock downs either.
The Hendo one, was a knock down. But to be fair. If I got hit like that by Hendo. I wouldn’t ever wanna talk about it again. Jake probably gets instant migraines if he even thinks about that moment, let alone talks about it.
There is also a strong chance Jake has no recollection of that entire round. ….. and half of the second.

I just find it suspicious
that Kampmann lands the knee flush, and Jake drops like a sack of potatoes, instantly. Maybe he did just eat the knee and drop for the takedown, but I will go with the obvious assumption that a flush knee from a Muay Thai champion is enough to drop Shields. If it looks like a duck, it’s a duck.

it shows that the knee was damaging, and Jake couldn’t/ wouldn’t continue standing. Personally, I thought Kampmann won that fight easy.

As excited as I am for this fight
I look at both Jakes and Gsp’s records and can’t help but think that GSP is gonna do what he alwyas does. GSP’s list is the who’s who of the WW division, Sheilds on the other hand is mostly stacked with second tier fighters. Call me crazy, but I think that Jake should have fought once more after the far from impressive Kampman fight.
Problem is
what’s GSP gonna do in the mean time?
Some hardcore fans always want a contender to be well proven, beating a certain number of ranked opponents before getting a shot at the title. These fans never take into consideration marketability, talent already shown, and business reality. These are the same fans who complained about Jones getting his shot and Brock getting his shot. Same ones complaining about Phil Davis fighting Rashad (not even a title shot!). They don’t seem to realize that MMA is a business, you have to strike while the iron is hot.
Can't argue with the logic
so I’m not even gonna try.
Deark Mark Hominick,
Perhaps a better game plan than “go out there and be mark hominick” might be:
